Granagh/Ballingarry 3-20 Knockaderry 0-11
Granagh/Ballingarry made it back-to-back wins in Group 1 of he Limerick County Minor C Hurling Championship with a comfortable 18 point, 3-20 to 0-11 victory over gallant neighbours in ideal conditions at Knockaderry on Saturday evening to go joint second in the table on four points with Knockaderry two behind Monagea with games in hand against Cappamore tonight, Wednesday 26th August, in Ballingarry at 6.30pm and Monagea on Sunday 30th August, in Ballingarry at 4.15pm.
The Knockaderry club had their pitch in top class condition for this re-match of last year’s County Minor C Hurling Championship final played in front of a good crowd with Seán Harnett of Dromcollogher/Broadford in charge. Granagh/Ballingarry got off to a dream start with a second minute green flag by Adam Mulqueen before white flags were traded by Knockaderry’s No 11, Cillian Moloney, from a placed ball on four minutes and Granagh/Ballingarry’s No 12 Danny O’Grady, two minutes later to leave the boys in black and green three ahead 1-1 to 0-1 on six minutes. Holders Granagh/Ballingarry with the wind at their backs dominated the next 20 minutes, shooting 1-11 through Darragh O’Donoghue 0-7 (3 frees), Danny O’Grady 1-1, Declan Dunworth 0-1 free and Nigel Noonan 0-1 without replay from the home side to leave the visitors Granagh/Ballingarry 17 ahead, 2-12 to 0-1 on 26 minutes. Then Kevin Sexton finally ended 23 minutes without a Knockaderry score when he split the uprights from a placed ball on 27 minutes before Danny O’Grady two minutes later to leave the boys in black and green three ahead, 1-1 to 0-1, on six minutes. Holders Granagh/Ballingarry with the wind at their backs, dominated the next 20 minutes shooting 1-11 through Darragh O’Donoghue 0-7 (3 frees), Danny O’Grady 1-1, Declan Dunworth 0-1 (free) and Nigel Noonan 0-1 without reply from the home side to leave the visitors 17 ahead, 2-12 to 0-1 on 26 minutes. Then Kevin Sexton finally ended 2—12 to 0-1 on 26 minutes. Then Kevin Sexton finally ended 23 minutes without a Knockaderry score when he split the uprights from a placed ball on 27 minutes before Danny O’Grady raised his second and Granagh/Ballingarry’s third green flag two minutes later to leave the score 3-12, Knockaderry 0-11 at the interval. Danny O’Grady from open play and Kevin Sexton from a placed ball traded white flags in the opening three minutes after the interval before a pair of white flags from placed balls for the Knockaderry boys courtesy of their No. 10 Kevin Sexton on 35 and 37 minutes to close the gap to 16, Granagh/Ballingarry 3-13, Knockaderry 0-6. The Granagh/Ballingarry boys now began to up their game again, shooting five points in a ten minute spell through Danny O’Grady (play), Darragh O’Donoghue (free), Declan Dunworth (play and free) and Nathan Hartnett (play) without reply from the home side to leave 21 between the sides, Granagh/Ballingarry 3-18m, Knockaderry 0-6 on 47 minutes. The Knockaderry boys, far from being overawed, once more landed a trio of white flags from open play in an eight minute spell courtesy of Jack Windle (one) and Kevin Sexton (two) to reduce the deficit to 18, Granagh/Ballingarry 3-18, Knockaderry 0-9 on 55 minutes. Then a pair of white flags from open play for Granagh/Ballingarry courtesy of Adam Mulqueen on 56 minutes and Alex Condron on 58 minutes were cancelled out by Kevin Sexton from open play on 60 minutes and Cillian Moloney from a placed ball in added time. At the final whistle Granagh/Ballingarry were comfortable 18-point, 3-20 to 0-11 winners of their second successive brace of points in Group 1 of the Limerick County Minor C Hurling Championship to joint second in the table on four points with Knockaderry two behind Monagea with games in hand against Cappamore on two points on tonight Wednesday 26th August in Ballingarry at 6.30pm and table topper on six points, Monagea on Sunday 30th August in Ballingarry at 4.15pm. Granagh/Ballingarry scored 3-14 from play and 0-6 from frees Knockaderry scored 0-4 from play and 0-7 from frees.

County Minor C Football Championship Semio Final:
Croom is the venue on Saturday 5th or Sunday 6th September at 6pm for the mouth-watering meeting of neighbours Granagh/Ballingarry and Banogue in the semi final of the inaugural Limerick County Minor C Football Championship semi-final. Granagh/Ballingarry finished top of Group 1 on six points with three straight wins over Caherconlish 2-10 to 1-10, Athea 3-14 to 3-12 and Knockaderry 5-6 to 2-11 before going under to Newcastlewest last time out by 16 points 5-17 to 3-7 while Banogue finished second in Group 1 on two points, two behind Pallasgreen, to set up the meeting with neighbours Granagh/Ballingarry in the inaugural County Minor C Football Championship semi final with neighbours Granagh/Ballingarry in Croom at 6pm. Your support for the boys in black and green and their management team of Noel Noonan, Donal O’Grady and Pat Carroll would be appreciated in Croom on the evening for the 6pm throw-in before Seamus Hayes of Mungret/St Paul’s to cheer them on to a final spot against Knockaderry or Pallasgreen.
County Premier Junior B Hurling Championship Group 1 Round 3:
St. Kierans GAA Club grounds in Ardagh is the venue on this Sunday 30th August at 1pm for the mouth-watering clash of neighbours Granagh/Ballingarry and Croagh/Kilfinny in Round 3 of Groups 1 in the West Junor B Hurling Championship.
Croagh/Kilfinny will enter Sunday’s game level with Blackrock on 3 points in the league/championship table one behind table topper Na Piarsaigh after a 0-19 to 2-13 draw with Blackrock and a 2-21 to 1-11 victory over Adare. Granagh/Ballingarry with a game in hand against Newcastlewest are pointless with Adre and Newcastlwest after suffering a 2-22 to 0-13 defeat to Blackrock in their only game played to date.
Your support for the boys in black and green and their management team of Niall Carroll, Shane O’Grady, Maurice Noonan, Shane Mulqueen and Andrew Holmes would be welcome in St. Kieran’s GAA Club grounds in Ardagh on Sunday for the 1pm throw-in by referee Joe Mulcahy of ~Ardagh to cheer them on in their bid to get their Group/County Junior B Hurling Championship campaign back on track after going under to Blackrock last time out.
Golden Jubilee Reunion:
The Granagh team who won the West Junior A Hurling Championship title in 1976 are holding a golden jubilee reunion party on Friday 28th August in the Rock Bar, Granagh starting with a team photo at 8pm. All Gaels on both sides of Knockfierna Hill and beyond are invited for a night of nostalgia and craic.

County Junior A Hurling Final Replay 1976
Granagh 3-11 Staker Wallace 0-7
Staker Wallace’s hopes of success was as good as ended ever before they took the field against 3-in-a-row west champions Granagh in the 1976 replay of the Limerick County Junior A Hurling Championship Final at Bruff on Sunday 5th December. Their failure to get a postponement of the fixture obvious, the non-availability of one of their key players and the absence of a few others made their task practically impossible. At one stage on Sunday they had difficulty in mustering a full 15 and it looked for a while as if the replay would not go ahead while Granagh who were forced to line-out once more minus former minor and county U21 star John Chawke were elated with their fourth and fifth success in this grade since 1942it was a sad ending for Stakers who contributed so much to the Limerick Junior A Hurling Championship in 1976. Looking at the brave show they put up in the game itself, one is inclined to feel sorry for them. The postponement of the game for one week would have hardly caused chaos in the fixture list even at this late stage of the season. Staker Wallace played into the town goal in in the opening half with wind assistance but fell into early 7arrears when Derry Noonan sent over two Granagh points. Although defeated Stakers fought courageously and three points from substitute n O’Brien put them ahead at the end of the first quarter, Granagh came back to level the scoring with a Mike Chawke point, John O’Brien pointed two, more frees to put Stakers ahead 0-5 to 0-3 at the break.
The hurling right through this first half was of a very standard and exceeded anything produced in the drawn game. The ball swung relentlessly from end to end and there was no shortage of hip to hip exchanges. The youthful Jimmy Chawke son of 1940 All Senior Hurling Championship medal with Limerick in 1940 goaled early for Granagh in the second half. This was the signal for a rush of Granagh scores, Derry Noonan 0-2, Mike Chawke 0-3, Seán Cagney 0-1 put their names on the scoring list before John O’Brien had Stakers’ first point of the second half. Seán Cagney and Dan Sheehan sealed victory for Granagh with perfectly executed goals. It must be recorded however that the problems in Stakers did not take from the achievement of Granagh. The 3-in-a-row western title holders unlucky at the same stage of the championship the previous year 1975 against Treaty Sarsfields were without question the bet junior hurling combination in Limerick in 1976. They played a fine round of hurling against Croagh/Kilfinny, Dromcollogher and Killeedy in the round robin group stage in the West Championship before they defeated Knockaderry after a replay in the semi final and neighbours Ballingarry in the West Final and Patrickswell in the County Semi Final and this was again in evidence in the draw county final against Staker Wallace, Ned Cullenane at left half back put in a great hour for the winners along with Donie O’Connor and Tommy Treacy. They made up a very solid half back line and contributed much for the side’s success. Team captain Mike and Jimmy Chawke were always prominent in attack and they received best support from Dan Hanley, Sean Cagney, Dan Sheehan and Derry Noonan, T.J. Hanley, Anthony Fitzgerald, Pat Carroll, Liam Heffernan and John O’Brien made valiant efforts to turn the title in Stakers’ favour.

Michael Noonan. After the game John Whelan (Newcastlewest), vice chairperson of the County Board presented the County Junior A Hurling Championship trophy (Irish Press Cup) to winning captain Mike Chawke to the delight of the Granagh supporters.
Selection committee: Rev. Fr. Casey CC, Dan Monahton, Ned Chaeke, Kevin O’Donoghue. Both Ned Chawke and Kevin O’Donoghue won All Ireland Minor and Senior Hurling Championship medals with Limerick on the same day ion 1940.

Scrap Metal Collection:
Granagh-Ballingarry GAA Club are organising a scrap metal collection on Friday 28th August to raise much-needed funds for the continued development of the club. The club has invested heavily in recent times in the club grounds in Ballingarry with the purchase of a robot mower, perimeter fencing, CCTV and access control, pitch sanding and maintenance for the enjoyment for everyone involved. We are asking all club members, families, friends and supporters to start gathering any scrap metal you have at home on the farm in sheds or around the yard, even small amounts will all add up and make a difference.
Drop off at the Clubhouse: There will be a skip outside the clubhouse in Ballingarry on Friday 28th August where members can drop off scrap.

County Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship Round 4:
All roads lead to Paddy Carroll Park, Ballyagran this Saturday 29th August for the clash of Granagh-Ballingarry and Effin in round 4 of the Limerick County Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship in a rematch of last year’s round 7 tie won by Granagh-Ballingarry by two points 0-21 to 0-19 on Saturday 20th September in Ballyagran. Both sides will enter Saturday evening’s game fourth on the league championship table on two points with Bruff and Glenroe four behind tabletoppers Dromin-Athlacca and Murroe-Boher on 6 points and one behind on third on three points Blackrock and Croagh-Kilfinny bottom on one. The Effin boys drew 0-17 to 0-17 with Croagh-Kilfinny and 1-20 to 1-20 with Bruff before going under to favourites Dromin-Athlacca 7 points 3-12 to 1-17. In round 3 Granagh-Ballingarry went under to Murroe-Boher by 4 points, 1-19 to 1-14 defeated neighbours Croagh-Kilfinny by one point, 2-17 to 1-19 before they suffered a one point 4-16 to 3-18 defeat to Glenroe last time out. Last year’s defeated finalists Effin with All Ireland senior hurling medallist Nickie Quaid at No. 6 and Patrick O’Donovan wearing the No. 11 jersey will enter Saturday’s game as favourites while the Granagh-Ballingarry boys minus key forward Sean O’Connor but welcome back Brian Sheehy will know they will have to up their game after the disappointing one point defeat to Glenroe last time out. The next Limerick County GAA club’s draw is on Saturday 29th August with a top prize of €10,000. Camogue Rovers GAA club grounds in Meanus is the venue on Thursday 10th September at 6pm for the crucial meeting of Granagh/Ballingarry and neighoburs in Round 5 of Group 1 in the County Premier Junior A Football Championship. Croom will enter this final group 1 stage game joint second in the table on 6 points with Camogue Rovers two behind tabletoppers Feenagh-Kilmeedy with a 2-16 to 2-13 win over Feenagh-Kilmeedy, received a walkover from Ballybrown, recorded a 12 point, 5-1- to 1-11 victory over Feohanagh-Castlemahon before going under to Camogue Rovers by 4 points 1-12 to 1-8 last time out. Granagh/Ballingarry are fourth in the table on 4 points after going under to Camogue Rovers by 7 points 1-14 to 1-10 in the opening round they defeated Feohanagh-Castlemahon 3-10 to 1-7, suffering 3-16 to 1-11 defeat to Feenagh-Kilmeedy and received a walkover from Ballybrown in Round 4. An exciting game of football is in prospect with a draw or a win by four points will see Croom through to the knockout stage of the championship, while Granagh/Ballingarry who will enter this crucial final group stage game on 4. A victory will see them finish level with their neighbours on 6 points to qualify for the quarter final on the head to head rule. €4,800 Jackpot on Saturday:
There was no winner of the €4,700 jackpot in the Granagh-Ballingarry GAA Club lottery draw on Saturday 22nd August in Condron’s Bar, Ballingarry. The numbers drawn were 5, 26, 28 and 31. The lucky dip winners of €20 were Grainne Daly, online, Frank Snow, Lorraine Irwin and Fiona Power.
