Strong Second Half Performance by Granagh Ballingarry:
County Minor C Football Championship Group 2 Round 1
Granagh/Ballingarry 2-10 Caherconlish 1-10
At sunny Ballingarry on Wednesday the home side Granagh/Ballingarry came from 5 points down, 1-6 to 0-4 at the interval with a strong second half performance with the wind at their backs to defeat gallant Caherconlish by 3 points, 2-10 to 1-10 in the opening round of Group 2 in the inaugural Limerick County Minor C Football Championship in a closely fought contest between two fine sporting sides.
The West v East opening round County Miner C Football Championship tie was played in front of a small crowd on an excellent pitch with Kieran Guina of Feohanagh/Castlemahon in charge.
The Caherconlish boys with the wind at their back made all the yearly running with a well-taken point by their No 14 Lee Jay Brown followed up by a smashing Conor O’Dwyer goal and a pair of white flags from open play, Michael Royle and Leejay Browne to lead 1-3 to 0-0 on 8 minutes. Then after four minutes of scoreless play Adam Mulqueen finally opened the home side’s account when he split the uprights for the third time from open play on 17 minutes before Granagh/Ballingarry’s No. 8 Edward Lynch landed a 2 pointer from a placed ball two minutes later to reduce the deficit to four, Caherconlish 1-4, Granagh/Ballingarry 0-3 on 19 minutes.
The Granagh/Ballingarry keeper Seán Daly made his third top save of this opening half from Michael Royle on 21 minutes before All Ireland and Minor Hurling Championship medal winners with Limerick Granagh/Ballingarry’s No 9 split the uprights following a good so9lo run on 22 minutes to close the gap to three, Caherconlish 1-4, Granagh/Ballingarry 0-4 eight minutes from the interval. Then Pearse Long extended the Caherconlish advantage to four when he split the uprights from a placed ball on 24 minutes, Danny O’Grady of Granagh/Ballingarry created a couple of good chances for his side in the next five minutes when he failed to convert before Caherconlish’s No. 12 JP Ryan finally found the range when he split the uprights from a placed ball on 30 minutes to send the East Limerick boys in at the interval leading by five, 1-6 to 0-4. Mark Boland and JP Ryan raised white flags in the open five minutes after the interval to increase the Caherconlish boys’ advantage to seven before 1-1 by Granagh/Ballingarry’s No 9 Danny O’Grady in a three minute spell to close the gap to three, Caherconlish 1-8, Granagh/Ballingarry 1-5 on 38 minutes. Jamie Kiely raised a white flag from open play to increase the Caherconlish boys’ advantage to four on 39 minutes before a Stephen Grimes goal on 40 minutes and a Danny O’Grady point from open play two minutes later for Granagh/Ballingarry to leave the sides level Granagh/Ballingarry 2-6, Caherconlish 1-9 on 42 minutes. The Granagh/Ballingarry boys now began to up their game with five unanswered white flags from open play in a 13-minute spell, Adam Mulqueen on 43 minutes, Liam English on 45 minutes, Danny O’Grady on 49 minutes and Liam English again four minutes later to leave the boys in black and green four ahead, 2-10 to 1-9 on 53 minutes.
Then after six minutes of scoreless play JP Ryan of Caherconlish finally found the range with his third white flag from open play on 39 minutes which was too little too late for the visitors as the final whistle sounded shortly after to leave the home side, Granagh/Ballingarry 3 point 2-10 to 1-10 winners of the two County Minor C Football League Championships on offer after a close hard fought contest between two fine sporting sides. The Granagh/Ballingarry boys now look forward with confidence to the next round on Wednesday 22nd July against Athea in Ballingarry at 7.30pm. Granagh/Ballingarry scored 2-8 from 1×2 pointer free Caherconlish scored 1-8 from play and 0-2 from frees.

A sunny Croom on Friday evening 2025 County Junior A Football championship winners made a winning start to their 2025 County Premier Junior A Football championship Group 1 campaign with a hard fought 7-point, 1-14 to 0-10 victory over gallant Granagh/Ballingarry.
The Croom club had their pitch in top class condition for this meeting of the 2022 and 2025 County Junior A Football Championship in the opening round of this year’s County Premier Junior A Football Championship played in front of 29 spectators with Michael Mann of Ballybrown in charge. The opening eight minutes in Croom were close but exciting with points traded by Ross O’Brien (play) and Paudie (free), Anthony Pinch (play) and Mark O’Shea (play), Anthony Neylon (free) and Anthony Pinch (free) before a pair of white flags by Anthony Neylan from a placed on 10 minutes and Ross O’Brien three minutes later to leave the Camogue Rovers boy two ahead, 0-5 to 0-3 on 13 minutes. Then white flags were traded from open play. Paudie Murphy on 16 minutes and Charlie Cronin on 18 minutes, Paudie Murphy on 10 minutes and Anthony Neylan on 23 minutes before Ross O’Brien raised an opportunist green flag for the Camogue boys two minutes later to put them five ahead 1-7 to 0-5 on 25 minutes.
The Granagh/Ballingarry boys dominated the final five minutes of this hard fought but unfortunately kicked six wides to leave the Camogue boys in at the interval still five ahead 1-7 to 0-5, Camogue Rovers No 8 Finn Clancy landed a two pointer rom a placed ball in the second minute after the interval before white flags were traded by Seán O’Gorman (free) on 34 minutes and Conor Clancy (play) on 37 minutes, Keith O’Kelly (free) on 40 minutes and Conor Clancy (play) three minutes later to leave the Bruff/Meanus boys seven ahead 1-11 to 0-7 on 43 minutes.
The final 17 minutes were evenly contested with white flags traded by Seán O’Gorman (play) on 45 minutes, Anthony Pinch (play) on 49 minutes, Seán O’Gorman (play) on 53 minutes and Anthony Pinch (play) on 55 minutes, Paudie Murphy (free) on 58 minutes and substitute Pa Finn (play) on 60 minutes to leave the Camogue Rovers boys who were forced to play the final couple minutes with fourteen players when their No. 8 Finn Clancy was shown a black card, 7 point 1-143 to 0-1`0 winners at the final whistle to take the two County Premier Junior A Football Championship points on offer to go top of the table on two points with Feohanagh/Castlemahon and Feenagh/Kilmeedy. Granagh/Ballingarry will now have to regroup ahead of their Round 2 meeting with Feohanagh/Castlemahon on this Friday 17th July in Knockaderry at 7.30pm while the Camogue Rovers will aim for back-to-back wins in the Round 2 tie against Feenagh/Kilmeedy also on this Friday in Croom at 7.30pm.

Limerick bid for 13th All Ireland title on Sunday:
The best of luck to the Limerick senior hurlers manager John Kiely our own Donal and Darragh O’Grady and the rest of the management team who play Leinster champions Galway in the All Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Final on this Sunday July 19th in Croke Park at 3.30pm, Limerick will be contesting their 22nd final, a first since 2023 and aiming for their 13th title and their sixth in nine seasons. Galway will be contesting their 26th final, a first since 2018 and seeking their 6th title. It will be the 139th final in the competition since Tipperary won the first one on 1st April, 1880 defeating Galway in the final. Limerick won in 2018 final while Galway were the winners when the two counties met in 1923 and 1980. Your support for the boys in green and white and the management would be appreciated at Croke Park on Sunday for the 3.20pm throw-in to cheer them on in their bid for a 13th title, a first since 2023 to make it an All Ireland Senior and Minor Hurling Championship double for the second time last achieved by the Shannonsiders in 1940.
Senior Hurling Championship Final Tickets:
The Granagh/Ballingarry GAA Club will receive an allocation of stand and terrace tickets for the Limerick v Galway All Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Final on Sunday 19th July in Croke Park. We are inviting paid up club members who are interested in going to the final to email the club ticket co-ordinator Adrian Farragher at gmail.com by Thursday 9th July at 5pm if they wish to have their names included in the ticket draw. The following club members will have first option to buy tickets officer of the senior and Bord na nÓg teams management club and county draw promoters, lottery, finance and field committee, first aid officers etc.
The remaining tickets will be drawn between paid up members of the club draw on a date to be confirmed in the clubhouse in Ballingarry. All winners of tickets will be contacted by email regarding collection and payment. Members are asked for patience and understanding in the run to the final as unfair and unrealistic demands will be dismissed. So, as many club members as possible can be accommodated with tickets. Club members are politely asked to source stand and Hill 16 tickets directly themselves online from local Centra or SuperValu outlets or from clubs in other counties as the demand for the club allocation is likely to outweigh supply. We look forward to the co-operation of all to implement the sale of tickets satisfactorily and hopefully there will be a big Granagh/Ballingarry support on the day.

St. Oliver Plunkett Eoghan Ruadh who compete in the Dublin County Senior B Hurling Championship recorded a nine-point 6-16 to 3-16 victory over Granagh/Ballingarry intermediate side in a well contested 41 score hurling challenge at sunny Ballingarry on Sunday evening. The opening 30 minutes in Ballingarry with Joe Mulcahy of Killeedy in charge were close and exciting with the Dublin boys going in at the interval leading by four, 4-9 to 3-8. It was tit-for-tat in the second half with a pair of late goals sealing a 9-point 6-16 to 3-16 victory for St. Oliver Plunkett Eoghan Ruadh after a most enjoyable 41 score contest with Joe Mulcahy of Killeedy in charge. St. Oliver Plunkett Eoghan Ruadh scored 6-14 from play and 0-2 from frees, Granagh/Ballingarry scored 3-1 from play and 0-3 from frees. County Minor C Hurling Championship Group 1 Round 2:
Ballingarry is the venue on tonight Wednesday 15th July at 7.30pm for the meeting of the home side Granagh/Ballingarry and Cappamore in Round 2 of Group 1 in the Limerick County Miner C Hurling Championship. In the opening series of games on Wednesday July 1st Granagh/Ballingarry recorded a 6-19 to 2-7 victory over Southside Gaels Claughaun- Old Christians – St. Patrick’s in Ballingarry while the Cappamore boys travelled to Knockaderry where they suffered a nine point 3-11 to 0-112 defeat to the home side.

All roads lead to Granagh Ballingarry GAA Club grounds in Ballingarry on Friday 24th July at 7.30pm (provisionally) for the mouth-watering clash of Granagh/Ballingarry and neighbours Feenagh/Kilmeedy in the second annual Granagh/Ballingarry Junior B Hurling Tournament final. All proceeds of a bucket collection will go to the new Granagh/Ballingarry Field Development Fund.

The next Limerick County GAA club’s draw is on Saturday July 25th with a top prize of €10,000. There was no winner of the €4,100 jackpot in the Granagh/Ballingarry GAA lottery draw held on Saturday 11th July in Condron’s Bar, Ballingarry. The numbers drawn were 5, 10, 18 and 23. Lucky dip winners of €20 each were: Seamus Stapleton, Maureen Snow, Marueen Carmody and Denis Noonan.
