In dry windy conditions in Ballingarry on Friday evening Bruree won the Jim (Twin) Lynch Memorial Cup for the first time with an impressive 7-point 2-19 to 1-15 victory over gallant 7-in-a-row s????Granagh/Ballingarry to make it a Jim O’Brien and Jim (Twin) Lynch Memorial Cup double over the boys from Knockfierna in front of a big crowd with the proceeds of the €640.15 bucket collection going to the rehabilitation Unit in St. Ita’s Community Hospital, Newcastlewest.
Paddy Hennessy and company had the pitch in top class condition for this clash of neighbours in the seventh annual Jim (Twin) Lynch Memorial Cup Final with John Paul Kiely of Croom in charge. Both sides lined out minus key players due to injury, holidays, exams and work commitments but the players on duty for both sides served up 60 minutes of exciting fair.
Michael Lane of Bruree and Cathal O’Keeffe of Granagh/Ballingarry traded white flags from open play in the opening minute before Luke Flynn of Granagh/Ballingarry split the uprights from a Bruree keeper Fionan O’Driscoll a minute later to leave the home side Granagh/Ballingarry ahead 1-2 to 0-1 on three minutes. Then Sam Cronnolly from a placed ball on four minutes and Michael Lane from open play on five minutes split the uprights for the Bruree boys before white flags were traded by Luke Flynn (free) on 7 minutes/and Conor Frawley (play) on 9 minutes, Sam Cronnolly (free) on 11 minutes and Luke Flynn (free) on 13 minutes, Sean Cronnolly (free) on 17 minutes and Luke Flynn (free) on 19 minutes, David Condron (play) on 20 minutes and Sam Cronnolly play two minutes later to leave two between the sides. Granagh/Ballingarry 1-16, Bruree 0-7 on 22 minutes. The final eight minutes of the well contested opening half belonged to Granagh/Ballingarry’s No 12, Luke Flynn, with a trio of white flags from placed balls to send the home side in at the interval leading by five 1-9 to 0-7 after playing with the wind at their backs, Sam Cronnolly and Paddy Lynch raised white flags from open play for the Bruree boys in the opening two minutes after the interval, cancelled out by Seán O’Gorman on 33 minutes and Luke Flynn a minute later to leave the Granagh/Ballingarry boys still five ahead 1-11 to 0-9 on 34 minutes. Then white flags were traded from open play by David Condron on 35 minutes. The Luke Flynn extended the Granagh/Ballingarry boys advantage to three when he split the uprights from a placed ball on 40 minutes before Brian Sexton finished past Granagh/Ballingarry keeper Keith O’Kelly for the second time a minute later to leave the sides level for the third time in this close hard fought Memorial Cup Final, Bruree 2-10, Granagh/Ballingarry 1-13 on 41 minutes. The next 11 minutes belonged to Bruree’s No 10 Sam Cronnolly with six unanswered white flags (1 play 5 frees) to leave the boys in white and blue six ahead 2-16 to 1-13 on 52 minutes. Then points were traded by Luke Flynn (free) on 53 minutes and Conor Frawley (play) on 55 minutes, Luke Flynn (free) on 56 members and Sam Cronnolly play on 58 minutes to bring his tally for the game to 0-12 (3 play 9 frees) before Conor Frawley split the uprights for the third time from open play on 60 minutes to seal an impressive 7-point 2-19 to 1-15 victory for the Bruree boys to claim the Jim twin Lynch Memorial Cup for the first time and make it a Jim O’Brien and Jim (Twin) Lynch Memorial Cup double over the boys from Knockfierna, Bruree scored 2-10 from play and 0-9 from frees, Granagh/Ballingarry scored 1-5 from play and 0-10 from frees.

Presentation:
After the game Granagh/Ballingarry secretary/PRO John Lynch congratulated Bruree on winning he Memorial Cup for the first time and on making it a Jim O’Brien and Jim (Twin) Lynch Memorial Cup double. He praised Granagh/Ballingarry for their part in a well in a well contested final and wished both teams the best of luck in the County Premier and Intermediate Hurling Championship. He complimented referee John Paul Kiely and is officials Paddy Hennessy and company for having everything in top class order and Jim Roche and Paddy Hennessy for their help with the bucket collection. John wished Andrew Holmes a full and healthy recovery and thanked the rehabilitation unit at St. Ita’s Community Hospital in Newcastlewest and remembered all the great Gaels in both Granagh/Ballingarry and Bruree who have been called to their eternal reward. He then presented the Memorial Cup to winning captain Sam Cronnolly to the joy of the Bruree supporters. Sam complimented the Lynch family for presented the cup to the Granagh/Ballingarry Club. He thanked the team management and the referee John Paul Kiely and wished Granagh/ballingarry the best of luck in the County Premier Intermediate Hurling and gave them three cheers.

Limerick end 42-year wait with a one point win:

Hearty congratulations to the Limerick minor hurling manager Diarmuid Hearty. Congratulations to the Limerick minor hurling and the rest of the management team on winning their fourth All Ireland Minor Hurling Championship title, a first since 1984 with a thrilling one point, 2-12 to 1-14 victory over gallant Munster champions Tipperary in front of 12,536 fans at Páirc nan Gael on Saturday courtesy of a well taken point y substitute John Ross O’Reilly of Ballybrown in the second minute of added time after one other second half substitute Gavin O’Brien of Kilmallock buried a stunning goal past the Tipperary keeper, Carrick Swan, ninety 90 seconds earlier. Captain Shane Waters with 1-6 (1-0 penalty 0-4 frees), second half substitute Gavin O’Brien 1-1, Diarmuid Crewe and Eamon Sullivan 0-2 each and second half substitute John Ross O’Reilly 1-0, coupled with a number of top class saves b keeper Sam Collis, a strong all round midfield and defence paved the way for this first All Ireland Hurling Championship title has been won by ten counties. The all-time record holders are Tipperary who have won by ten counties. Galway have won the most All Ireland Minor Hurling Championships in succession winning an historic 4-in-a-row from 2017 to 2020 Saturday’s All Ireland Final win sees Danny O’Gray become the first Granagh/Ballingary player to win an All Ireland Minor Hurling Championships medal which is a great honour for Danny his family, school and our club. Paddy Murphy, a native of Ballingarry who played with Kilfinny and Kevin O’Donoghue, Granagh Club chairman in the 1970 and 80s who played with Mungret won in 1940 when Limerick also won the All Ireland senior title which may be achieved again by the Treaty boys on Sunday 19th July.

Limerick bid to reach sixth All Ireland final in nine seasons on Sunday:
The best of luck to the Limerick senior hurlers manager John Kiely, our own Donal and Darragh O’Grady and the rest of the management team who play neighbours Clare on this Sunday 4th July in Croke Park in the All Ireland Senior Hurling championship semi final for a place in the final for the sixth time in nine seasons against Galway or Cork on Sunday 19th July.

Ballingarry is the venue tonight Wednesday 1st July at 7.30pm for the meeting of the home side Granagh-Ballingarry and Southside Gaels Claughaun-St. Patrick’s-Old Christians in the opening round of Group 1 in the Limerick County Minor C Hurling Championships. The championship is being run on an all-county basis in two groups and eleven teams have indicated that they will take part.

Granagh/Ballingarry GAA club draw promoters are taking to the streets of the parish to canvas members to join the club draw which will be held quarterly with €2,000 in prizes, one prize of €1,000 and ten prizes of €100 vouchers with the option to join in the club weekly lottery draw for €150 and the club draw lottery/county club draw for €200. €4,000 Jackpot on Saturday:
There was no winner of the €3,900 jackpot in the Granagh/Ballingarry GAA in the lottery draw held on Saturday 27th June in the Rock Bar, Granagh. The numbers drawn were 4, 6, 21 and 32. The lucky dip winners of €20 each went to Caolan Scott, promoter online; Martha O’Kelly, Carmel Quille and Mark Snow.
The next draw will be held on Saturday 4th July in Buckley’s Bar, Granagh for a jackpot of €4,000. Tickets are €2 each or three for €5 and are on sale in local shops, bars and from promoters.
