Granagh/Ballingarry recorded their first win in Division 8 of the County Hurling League with a one point 1-20 to 1-17 victory over gallant Bruff in a thrilling 41 score contest at sunny Bruff on Monday evening.
The Bruff officials had their pitch in top class conditions for this Division 8 Hurling League Round 4 tie played in front of a small crowd with Mike Sexton of Bruree in charge.
Jack Mulqueen and Jack Hartnet split the uprights from open play for Granagh/Ballingarry in the opening two minutes before four unanswered white flags in as many minutes for Bruff courtesy of Seán Murnane (play), Alex Mulcahy (65), Seán Murnane and Cormac Daly (play) before a long delivery by Granagh/Ballingarry’s No 11 Darragh O’Donoghue was finished past Bruff keeper Seoirse Bulfin by Peter Hughes to leave the Granagh/Ballingarry boys one ahead, 1-2 to 0-4 on 8 minutes. Then white flags were traded by Alex Mulcahy on (free) on 8 minutes, Darragh Donahue (free) on 10 minutes, Cian Madden (-lay) on 12 minutes, Darragh O’Donoghue (free) on 10 minutes, Cian Madden (play) on 12 minutes, Darragh O’Donoghue (free) on 13 minutes, Alex Mulcahy (free) on 14 minutes and Darragh O’Donoghue (free) a minute later to leave Granagh/Ballingarry again one ahead 1-5 to 0-7 at the end of the first quarter. Then Alex Mulcahy finished past Granagh/Ballingarry keeper Keith O’Kelly on 16 minutes before white flags were traded by Darragh O’Donoghue from open play on 18 minutes and Alex Mulcahy from a place ball two minutes later to leave the Bruff boys two ahead, 1-8 to 1-6 on 20 minutes. The next 7 minutes belonged to Bruff’s No 13 Alex Mulcahy with a trio of white flags (1play 2 frees) before Darragh O’Donoghue from a place ball on 29 minutes and Owen Lynch from open play on 30 minutes raised white flags for the visitors to leave three between the sides Bruff 1-11, Granagh/Ballingarry 1-8 at the interval. Jack Hartnett, Colm Noonan, Paudie McKenna and Conor O’Donoghue raised white flags for Granagh/Ballingarry in the opening four minutes after the interval before points were traded by Seán Murnane (play) on 35 minutes and Darragh O’Donoghue (free) on 36 minutes, Colm Noonan (play) on 38 minutes, Seán Murnane (play) a minute later to leave the visitors Granagh/Ballingarry one ahead, 1-14 to 1-13 on 39 minutes. Then Bruff’s No. 28 substitute raised white flags from open play on 41 and 43 minutes before points were traded by Darragh O’Donoghue from a placed ball on 45 minutes and Bruff substitute Ger Kelleher from open play two minutes later to leave 1-16 to 1-15 in favour of Bruff on 47 minutes. Then a trio of white flags by Darragh O’Donoghue (free) on 48 minutes substitute Mark O’Shea (play) on 49 minutes and Darragh O’Donoghue (free) a minute later to put the Granagh/Ballingarry side two ahead 1-18 to 1-16 on 50 minutes. Then points were traded by Alex Mulcahy (free) on 52 minutes and Darragh O’Donoghue (free) on 54 minutes, Colm Noonan (play) on 56 minutes and Alex Mulcahy (free) on 58 minutes t leave two between the sides, Granagh/Ballingarry 1-20, Bruff 1-18. Then Granagh/Ballingarry keeper Keith O’Kelly made a top class from Bruff substitute Ger Kelleher before Bruff’s No 13 Alex Mulcahy split the uprights from a place ball on 60 minutes which was too little too late for the home side as the final whistle sounded to leave Granagh/Ballingarry one point, 1-20 to 1-19 winner of their first brace of points in Division 8 of the County Hurling League and can now look forward with confidence to their next outing against Bruff on Saturday 16th May in Ballingarry at 3pm. Davy hits the €15,100 jackpot:
Hearty congratulations to Davy Clifford, Ballingarry promoter online on winning the €15,000 jackpot in the club’s GAA lottery on Saturday 25th April in Condron’s Bar, Ballingarry.
The numbers drawn were 7, 19, 25 and 26. Davy is the first winner of the jackpot wince Ross and James Tierney, Ahalin, Ballingarry won €3,000 on Saturday 12th August 2023 in Buckley’s Bar, Ballingarry. The lottery reverts to €3,000 on Saturday 2nd May in Buckley’s Bar.

Glenroe came from five points down at the interval to give Glenroe a powerful second half display with the wind t their backs, adding 20 points to 14 for the home side, Ballingarry in ideal conditions at Ballingarry on Saturday evening to stay top of Division 5 of the County Hurling League on 7 points and Granagh/Ballingarry and Granagh/Ballingarry joint second from the bottom on two points with South Liberties one ahead of pointless Feohanagh/Castlemahon.
Paddy Hennessy and company had the Granagh/Ballingarry pitch in top class condition for this round 4 league tie played in front of a small crowd with Michael Browne of Dromcollogher/Broadford in charge. Darren Frewen and Jack Cagney traded white flags from open play in the opening 3 minutes before four unanswered white flags for Granagh/Ballingarry in as many minutes, Michael Russell (free) a minute later to leave it 0-6 to 0-2 in favour of the home side Granagh/Ballingarry on 11 minutes. Then a pair of white flags for Glenroe through Dáithí Dennehy on 12 minutes and Adam Frewen on 13 minutes were cancelled out from placed balls by Michael Russell on 14 minutes and Eoin Horgan a minute later to leave the Granagh/Ballingarry boys again four ahead 0-8 to 0-4 at the end of the first quarter. The Glenroe boys with the wind at their backs, upped their game with six unanswered white flags in as many minutes through Darren Frewen (free), substitute Cathal Dennehy play, David McCarthy free, Daniel Murphy, play, Liam Dennehy play and Adam Frewen play to leave the visitors one ahead Glenroe 0-20, Granagh-Ballingarry 0-19 on 51 minutes. Points were traded by Michael Russell, free on 52 minutes and Darren Frewen play on 53 minutes, Jack Cagney play on 54 minutes, Liam Dennehy play on 55 minutes, Michael Dennehy play on 56 minutes, Michael Russell free on 57 minutes, Darren Frewen play on 58 minutes and Eoin Horgan free a minute later to leave Glenroe still one ahead 0-24 to 0-23 on 59 minutes. The Glenroe boys finished strong with a pair of white flags courtesy of Darren Frewen from a 65 on 64 minutes and keeper David McCarthy with his fourth from a placed ball on 65 minutes to leave the visitors Glenroe 5 point 0-29 to 0-24 winners at the final whistle of a most enjoyable 53 point contest to stay top of the Division 5 County Hurling League table on 7 points, one ahead of Murroe-Boher and Granagh-Ballingarry joint second from the bottom with South Liberties on 2 points ahead of pintless Feohanagh-Castlemahon,
The Granagh-Ballingarry boys will aim to build on Saturday’s much improved performance when they clash with third place on 5 points, one behind Murroe-Boher neighbours Bruree in round 5, which will also double up as the Jim O’Brien Memorial Cup Final on Sunday 10th May in Bruree, TBC while the Glenroe boys’ next outing is against second placed Murroe-Boher on Saturday 23rd May in Boher at 7.30pm. Glenroe scored 0-17 from play, 0-9 from frees and 0-3 from 65s. Granagh-Ballingarry scored 0-14 from play and 0-10 from frees.

Waterford recorded their first win in the Munster U20 Hurling Championship with a hard fought one point 1-18 to 1-17 victory over gallant Limerick at Pairc na nGael on Wednesday evening. This third straight defeat means that top tree berth is now beyond the Shannonsiders reach despite having to play Tipperary in Round 5 today Wednesday 29th April in Pairc na nGael at 7pm. Back to back 2 point win for Cork over 14 man Limerick:

Cork 2-22 Limerick 1-23
Holders Cork made it back to back wins in the Munster senior hurling championship with a thrilling 2 point 2-22 to 1-23 victory over league champions Limerick to revert the recent League final defeat in ideal conditions at Pairc Uí Chaoimh on Sunday. This result sees Cork on 4 points, Clare on 2 points, Waterford and All Ireland champions Tipperary on 1 point each and Limerick pointless with a game in hand against Tipperary on Sunday 3rd May in Cusack Park Ennis at 2pm.

Munster Minor Hurling Championship Round 4:
Good luck to our own Danny O’Grady, a member of the squad and all involved with the Limerick minor hurlers who play Tipperary in round 4 of the Munster minor hurling championship this Thursday 30th April in Pairc na nGael at 7pm. Tipperary will enter Thursday evening’s game top of the table on 4 points while Limerick, Cork, Clare and Waterford are all on 2 points.

Munster Senior Hurling Championship Round 3 Tickets:
Granagh-Ballingarry received a total of 60 terrace tickets for Sunday’s Clare v Limerick Munster Senior hurling championship round 3 game in Cusack Park, Ennis at 2pm. Thank you to all club members for their co-operation to implement the sale of tickets as the demand for our allocation of tickets outweighs supply. Hopefully there will be big Granagh-Ballingarry support on the day.

April Club Limerick Draw Winners:
The April Limerick County GAA Club Draw was held on Saturday 25th April. Granagh-Ballingarry GAA Club had approximately 200 members in the draw but unfortunately, we had no winner. The results of the Club Limerick Draw are elsewhere in the sports pages.

Granagh-Ballingarry GAA club draw promoters are taking to the streets of the parish to canvas members to join the club draw, which will be held quarterly with €2,000 in prizes. 1st prize €1,000 and ten prizes of €100 with the option to join the club weekly lottery draw for €150 and the club draw lottery/County Club Draw for €200. If you wish to renew your membership please contact your promoter asap as the first County Club Draw takes place shortly.

Granagh/Ballingarry players’ membership fees for 2026 are fixed at €50 for Bord na nÓg players, €90 maximum for two or more players, students €50, adult players €180 to include membership of club draw can be still renewed online at www.foireann.ie Any player not currently registered who incur any injury will not be covered by GAA insurance and will have to cover all costs, including medical and loss of earnings, so we ask all players who may have yet to register to do so asap at www.foireann.ie

Due to a cluster of back games to be played in Division 5 of the County Football League by Saturday 9th May in the best interest of player welfare Granagh-Ballingarry have decided to withdraw from Division 5 of the County Football League for 2026.
