Murroe-Boher recorded their second win in Division 3 of the County Hurling League in cold, dry conditions at Ballingarry on Saturday evening with an impressive 13 point, 2-23 to 1-13 victory over gallant Granagh to go second on the table on 4 points with Bruff and Cappamore one behind Glenroe and Granagh-Ballingarry sixth on 2 points ahead of pointless Feohanagh and South Liberties.
Paddy Hennessy and company had the Granagh-Ballingarry pitch in top class condition for this round 3 League tie played in front of a small crowd with Kieran Guina of Feohanagh-Castlemahon in charge. The home side lined out wearing their new sponsored O’Leary Bros black and green jerseys. The opening 6 minutes were close and exciting with white flags traded by Luke Flynn free and Tommie Cusack play, Luke Flynn and Jack Casey play before Jack Nicholas of Murroe split the uprights following a good solo run to leave the visitors one ahead, 0-3 to 0-2 on 8 minutes. White flags were traded from placed balls by John O’Keeffe on 10 minutes and Luke Flynn on 12 minutes before a trio of white flags for the East Divisional side courtesy of Jack Nicholas and Mark Nicholas from open play on 13 and 15 minutes and John O’Keeffe from a placed ball 2 minutes later to leave four between the sides, Murroe-Boher 0-8, Granagh-Ballingarry 0-3 on 17 minutes. A trio of white flags from open play for the Granagh-Ballingarry boys through Luke Flynn on 18 minutes and Sean O’Gorman on 20 and 22 minutes to reduce the deficit to the minimum before a pair of white flags from open play courtesy of John O’Leeffe on 23 minutes and Michael Ryan a minute later to leave the Murroe-Boher boys three ahead 0-9 to 0-6 on 24 minutes. White flags were traded by Luke Flynn from a placed ball on 25 minutes and Michael Ryan from open play on 26 minutes before Granagh-Ballingarry’s Luke Flynn from a placed ball a minute later to reduce the deficit to two, Murroe-Boher 0-10, Granagh-Ballingarry 0-8 on 27 minutes. The visitors finished the opening half strong with a pair of green flags courtesy of Mark Nicholas on 28 minutes and Tommie Cusack on 30 minutes to send the Murroe-Boher boys in at the interval leading by 8, 2-10 to 0-8. Luke Flynn free and Jack Nicholas play, Luke Flynn play and David Hickey play, Michael Ryan play and Eoin Horgan free, Eoin Herlihy play and John O’Keeffe play traded white flags in the opening10 minutes after the interval to leave 8 still between the sides, Murroe-Boher 2-14, Granagh-Ballingarry 0-12 on 40 minutes. The Murroe-Boher boys dominated the next 15 minutes with points by John O’Keeffe free on 42 minutes, David Hickey on 45 minutes, Mark Nicholas on 46 minutes, John O’Keeffe on 48 minutes, Michael Ryan on 50 minutes and Mark Nicholas on 55 minutes all from open play before white flags were traded from open play by Eon Horgan on 57 minutes and Tommie Cusack two minutes later to leave the score Murroe-Boher 2-23, Granagh-Ballingarry 0-13 on 59 minutes. Darragh Casey finished past Murroe-Boher keeper Killian Quaid one minute into added time which was too little too late for the Granagh-Ballingarry boys. At the final whistle Murroe-Boher were impressive 13 point 2-23 to 1-13 winners of their second brace of points in Division 3 of the County Hurling League to go second on the table on 4 points with Bruff and Cappamore.
The Murroe-Boher boys can now look forward with confidence to the next round against Bruff this Saturday 25th April in Bruff at 7pm while the Granagh-Ballingarry boys will have to regroup ahead of their clash with Glenroe also on Saturday 25th April in Ballingarry at 7pm. Murroe-Boher cored 2-20 from play and 0-3 from frees. Granagh-Ballingarry scored 1-7 from play and 0-6 from frees.

The much delayed meeting of Granagh-Ballingarry and 2025 County Junior A Football Championship winners Camogue Rovers in the opening round of Division 5 in the County Football League in difficult, wet and windy conditions at Ballingarry on Tuesday 14th April went the way of the visitors Camogue Rovers, with an impressive 15 point, 3-12 to 0-5 victory over a gallant, very much under strength Granagh-Ballingarry to go top of the table on 4 points, two ahead of Fr. Caseys and Monagea after their 2-22 to 3-12 victory over Fr. Caseys in round 2. The game was played in front of a small crowd with Paddy Lyons of Stake Wallace in charge. The Camogue Rovers laid a firm foundation for victory in the opening half against the wind going in at the interval leading by 6 points, 1-7 to 0-4 with their goal scored by their No. 15 Anthony Punch after only 2 minutes. The Granagh-Ballingarry boys’ cause was not helped in the second half, playing into the wind without the injured Jack Cagney the Camogue boys added on 2-5 to their first half total with the home side’s only reply a well taken point by the youthful Jack McMahon. At the final whistle Camogue Rovers were impressive 15 point, 3-12 to 2-5 winners of their second successive brace of points in Division 5 of the All County Football League to go top of the table on 4 points, two ahead of Fr. Caseys and Mountcollins, while Granagh-Ballingarry are pointless at the bottom behind Croom and Mungret St. Paul’s on 1 point with a game in hand against Mungret St. Paul’s which was played last night (Tuesday) and play neighbours Croom in round 3 on Wednesday 29th April in Croom at 7.15pm.

Newcastle West after going under to Croagh-Kilfinny by 2 point, 3-10 to 3-10 in round 2 got their County Hurling League Division 3 campaign back on track with a hard fought 4 point victory over gallant Granagh-Ballingarry in cold, dry conditions in Ballingarry on Sunday evening. A small crowd turned out to watch this County Hurling League Division 8 Round 3 tie played on an excellent pitch with John Paul Kiely of Fedamore in charge. The opening 4 minute at Ballingarry belonged to Darragh O’Donoghue of Granagh-Ballingarry with 1-1 from 65s before Andrew Lyons opened the visitors account, when he split the uprights from a placed ball to leave it Granagh-Ballingarry 1-1, Newcastle West 0-1 on 5 minutes. A pair of white flags for Newcastle West courtesy of Paul Logue on 8 minutes and Andrew Lyons on 11 minutes were cancelled out by Darragh O’Donoghue on 14 and 15 minutes to leave three between the sides, Granagh-Ballingarry 1-3, Newcastle West 0-3 at the end of the first quarter. Newcastle West had a trio of white flags through Andrew Lyons from a 65 on 16 minutes and a placed ball on 18 minutes, Rory Vaughan from open play on 19 minutes before points were traded by Darragh O’Donoghue from a placed ball on 21 minutes and Todd Donovan from open play on 22 minutes, Sean Torley from open play on 25 minutes and David Condron from open play on 27 minutes and Michael Blachkiv on 30 minutes to leave the Newcastle West boys in at the interval leading by one, 0-10 to 1-6. Darragh O’Donovan won points back for Granagh-Ballingarry from placed balls on 45 and 48 minutes before points were traded by Andrew Lyons from a placed ball on 50 minutes and Peter Hughes 4 minutes later to leave three between the sides, Newcastle West 0-17, Granagh-Ballingarry 1-12 on 54 minutes, Rory Vaughan from open play on 55 minutes and Andrew Lyons from a placed ball on 57 minutes raised white flags for Newcastle West before green flags were traded by Rory Vaughan on 59 minutes and Darragh O’Donoghue on 60 minutes to bring his tally for the game to 1-10, 0-3 play, 0-6 frees, 1-1 from 65. Munster Senior Hurling Championship Round 2:

Bouncing Monarch Win Con and Annie Kirby Memorial Stake:
At a packed Limerick Greyhound Stadium on Saturday night Bouncing Monarch won the Con and Annie Kirby Memorial Stake. This win saw Beanos Gent assigned club Effin GAA win a cheque for €10,000 and a free benefit night at Limerick Greyhound Stadium. In second place was Ballymac Setanta and a cheque for €5,000 for Dromin/Athlacca GAA Club. Ballygowan Frank finished 3rd with €2,000 heading to Kilmallock GAA Club. Joykey Fly assigned to Patrickswell GAA Club, Buckos Geld and Geanos Gent assigned to Gerald Griffins GAA and Granagh/Ballingarry Camogie Club and €12,000 for all four clubs. Thank you to all who supported this event over the five weekends.
Golf Classic a Great Success:
Granagh/Ballingarry GAA Club enjoyed a highly successful Golf Classic on Thursday 16th and Friday 17th April held in Newcastlewest Golf Club. The event brought together an excellent turnout of teams and supporters for a day that combined sport, community spirit and important fundraising for the club. The club officials extends its sincere thanks to everyone who entered a team and to the many local businesses and individuals who generously sponsored the boxes. All proceeds from the event will go directly towards the club’s development club facilities. Recent developments include the installation of a new CCTV system and the purchase of a state-of-the-art robotic mower capable of maintaining all seven acres of the club grounds. These upgrades mark major progress in enhancing both security and pitch maintenance as the club continues to invest in the future. Despite a few scattered showers, weather conditions were generally favourable, contributing to an enjoyable day for all involved. The standard of golf was high with the following teams taking top honours

€15,100 Jackpot on Saturday:
There was no winner of the 15,000 jackpot in the Granagh/Ballingarry GAA Club lottery draw on Saturday April 18th in the Rock Bar, Granagh. The numbers drawn were 2, 23, 27 and 29. The lucky dip winners of 20 each were Claire Hehir, Granagh, Val Small promoter Andrew Holmes and Pa Keating promoter Adrian Farragher. The next draw will be held on Saturday 25th April in the Condron’s Bar, Ballingarry for a jackpot of €15,100. Tickets are €2 each or three for €5 and are on sale in local shops, bars and from promoters.
