Heavy Defeat for Premier Intermediates:
Round 4 of the Premier Intermediate Championship saw us face Murroe/Boher in Hospital last Thursday. Murroe/Boher opened the scoring with a point from play in the first minute. In a lacklustre opening half where we found scores hard to come by, Darren Frewen knocked over a point from a placed ball. Murroe hit four on the bounce to lead after 10 minutes. David McCarthy struck a long range free from inside his own half. We failed to register another score for 10 minutes, until Liam Dennehy got our first score from play. Our opponents found it easier to get scores, hitting the last three points of the half to leave the half time score at 0-10 to 0-03.
It was an even start to the second half, with both teams trading scores. Each side hit four points, Glenroe’s scores all coming from placed balls, three from Darren and another long distance point from David. Murroe hit three further points to our one free from Darren, while Cillein O’Brien came on for Bob Frewen. Murroe ran riot in the final 10 minutes of the game, scoring 2-03 to our two points from a Darren free and Shane O’Donoghue from play, while we finished the game with 14. The scoreboard at full time read 2-20 to 0-10. Glenroe lined out as follows: David McCarthy, Seán O’Donnell, Shane O’Donoghue, Darren Carroll, Kyle McCarthy, Stephen Walsh, Eoghan Fitzgerald, Daniel Murphy, Daithi Dennehy, Ciaran Kelly, Aaron Buckley, Liam Dennehy, Darren Frewen, Bob Frewen, Adam Frewen. Big Win for Premier Junior Bs:
We headed to Knocklong last Sunday to take on Pallasgreen in Round 3 of the Premier Junior B Championship. Pallasgreen started the stronger, striking 1-01 in the opening couple of minutes. Glenroe replied with two points from Eoin Walsh to reduce the gap. Both sides traded scores over the next 10 minutes. Our points came from Eoin (0-03 from play, 0-01 free), Mark O’Connell & Liam O’Donnell, with our opponents knocking over 1-04. Neither side added to the scoreboard for the next 8 minutes, but in a frenzied last five minutes of the half, we hit 2-02 to Pallasgreen’s 1-03, our scorers were Cian Hogan (0-01) and Mark (2-01). We went in a point down at half time, 3-08 to 2-10.
We were quickly up and running at the start of the second half, hitting two points from Rob O’Dwyer and an Eoin free in the opening five minutes. Pallasgreen knocked over a point to level the game. It was score for score over the next five minutes, with two Mark frees and one from play through Eoin. The opposition failed to score in the last quarter, while our players ran riot, scoring 1-07 through Eoin (1-01 from play, 3 placed balls), two from Ian O’Sullivan and one from Jason Leigh. Glenroe also made two substitutions during this time, Tommy O’Donnell and Callum McNamara replacing Rob O’Dwyer and Cian Hogan respectively. Full time score was 3-22 to 3-12 to give us our first two points of the campaign. Glenroe lined out as follows: Alan McSweeney, Jamie Lynch, Pa McSweeney, Cormac Kearney, Jason Leigh, Kieran Tobin, Jordan Sheehy, Johnny Tallon, Liam O’Donnell, Ian O’Sullivan, Mark O’Connell, Daniel Hennessy, Cian Hogan, Rob O’Dwyer, Eoin Walsh.
