Premier Intermediates Edge It By One Point:
We ventured to Knocklong yet again to take on Granagh/Ballingarry in Round 2 of the Premier Intermediate Championship. David McCarthy opened our scoring with a free in the first minute. Cathal Dennehy rattled the net with a well taken goal in response to a Granagh point. Granagh replied with a sublime point from a sideline cut. Adam Frewen got his first point of the game from play, while our opposition scored 3 without reply to level the game. On the 15th minute, Liam Dennehy struck our second goal of the match to put us back in front. Cathal pointed from play, while Granagh knocked over two points in less than a minute. We then got 3 points in quick succession through two points from Darren Frewen either side of a second Cathal point. Robbie Downey came on as a temporary sub in place of Brian O’Connell. Meanwhile, Granagh hit two points in under 60 seconds yet again. Cathal weaved his way through the Granagh defence only for his shot to be saved by the keeper but he pointed from play shortly after. In the closing minutes of the half, our opponents got 3 further points, while Adam got our last point to give us a 2 point lead going in at the break. Half time score read 2-08 to 0-12.
Glenroe made a substitution early in the second half, with Seán O’Donnell replacing Pa Holian. However, the opening score of the half came from a Granagh free. We got a fortuitous goal from a Granagh error. Liam Dennehy and Eoghan Fitzgerald put us further ahead with points from play. We capitalised on a mistake in the Granagh defence to get our fourth goal of the game but the opposition responded with their first goal to reduce the gap. Cathal and Adam knocked over a point each which turned out to be our last scores from play, while Granagh got a second point from a sideline cut. They then got 2 goals in a minute to level the game. In a tense final 10 minutes, we outscored the opposition by 4 points to 3, our scores all coming from placed balls, 3 from Darren and a long range free from David. Cillein O’Brien entered the field of play in place of Aaron Buckley. The full time score was 4-16 to 3-18, putting our first points on the board. Minor Hurlers in the County Final:
Glenroe Minor Hurlers have progressed to the County Minor A Hurling Championship final following a 2-16 to 1-10 victory over Bruff in last Sunday’s semi-final. Glenroe produced a solid performance throughout the game to secure their place in the county decider. Fixture details for the final to be confirmed.
Save the Date – Tryrox at Glenroe GAA:
After a fantastic opening event in June, Tryrox will return to Glenroe GAA this October. Our next event will take place on Saturday 31st October 2026. More information to follow in the coming weeks.
Tryrox Bootcamp Classes at the Gym in Glenroe GAA kicked off for its first week last Sunday. These classes will continue this Sunday 30th August from 8.30-9.30am. These are hybrid-style training classes. All fitness levels welcome, adults only (17+). Classes are €13 pp, payable on the morning (PAYG).
