Narrow Defeat for our Premier Intermediates:
Round 3 of the Premier Intermediate Championship saw us take on near rivals Blackrock in Knocklong last Friday evening. Darren Frewen was our sole scorer in the opening 15 minutes, hitting 1-03 (1-02 from play), to our opponent’s five points to give us the early lead. Liam Dennehy got his name on the scoresheet with a point from play while Darren scored after catching the sliotar, turning to leave the defence stranded and striking over the bar. The opposition scored three unanswered points. Kyle McCarthy scored our last point of the half to leave us going in at the break two points down, 0-12 to 1-07. Seán O’Donnell and Zach McCarthy were replaced by Brian O’Connell and Aaron Buckley at half time.
Cathal Dennehy struck from play to reduce the deficit but unfortunately, they got a goal to extend their lead. We got three successive scores from Brian, a Darren free and Adam Frewen to narrow the gap 15 minutes into the second half. Meanwhile, Ciaran Kelly entered the fray in place of Darren Carroll. The opposition struck four points to Darren’s point from play to pull further ahead. Our defence withheld the opposing attack as they didn’t score for the last five minutes. Darren knocked over two placed balls to leave the final score 1-18 to 1-14. Defeat in Round 2 for our Junior Bs
We headed to Kilteely last Sunday to face Doon in Round 2 of the Premier Junior B Championship. Doon were quicker off the mark, scoring 1-04 without reply to race into an early lead. Cillein O’Brien pointed for our first score of the game in the tenth minute. The opposition got three further points before Eoin Walsh rattled the Doon net. Eoin struck two frees in response to two Doon points. In the last 10 minutes of the half, it was score for score, with our scores coming from Jason Leigh, two from Eoin and Cillein. The half time score was 1-14 to 1-07 in Doon’s favour.
We made three substitutions at half time, Jamie Lynch, Evan Riordan and Daniel Hennessy being replaced by Cormac Kearney, Conor Buckley and Michael John Farrell. Unfortunately, Doon got a second goal at the beginning of the half to pull further away. Cillein & Eoin (free) added to their tally, which Doon responded to with points of their own. Mark O’Connell knocked over a free but our opponents hit back with four points without reply. Liam O’Donnell ran up from the half back line to strike a good point from play. Cathal Maher entered the fray for Cian Hogan. Doon hit 1-01 in quick succession, while Eoin knocked over two further frees. Callum McNamara came on for Jimmy Barry Murphy, while Mark struck a 65 for our final score of the game. Full time score read 3-22 to 1-14. Tryrox at Glenroe GAA:
After a fantastic opening event in June, Tryrox will return to Glenroe GAA this October. More details to follow in the coming weeks.
Tryrox Bootcamp Classes at the Gym in Glenroe GAA will also return this August. The first of these classes will be on Sunday August 23rd from 8.30 – 9.30 am. These are hybrid-style training classes. All fitness levels welcome, adults only (17+). Classes are €13 pp, payable on the morning (PAYG).
