Glenroe GAA Club Notes:
South Champions:
We headed to Kilmallock last Saturday evening to play Knockainey in the South Intermediate Championship final. Ciaran Kelly and a Darren Frewen free got Glenroe underway. A misplaced pass in the Glenroe full back line went straight to Knockainey, who capitalised by hitting the back of the Glenroe net after 5 minutes. Cathal Dennehy responded with a goal to put us back in the lead. Darren scored a free which was given due to dissent from the Knockainey sideline. He followed this up with 1-01 in quick succession. Unfortunately, we lost Seán O’Donnell through injury, with Aaron Buckley replacing him. The sides traded scores over the next 5 minutes, including a Knockainey point from a sideline cut, with our scores coming from a Darren free, Liam Dennehy and Cathal. In the lead up to half time, our opponents struck 4 points without reply, including a free moved forward for dissent. Darren got the last score of the half with a 65. Half time score read 2-08 to 1-08 in our favour. Glenroe were quicker off the mark at the beginning of the second half, with Cathal and a Darren free increasing our lead. Knockainey scored a free but we then hit 4 points on the bounce. Adam Frewen entered the fray for Daithi Dennehy while Darren got a second goal to put us well in the lead. Adam got his name on the scoresheet with a point from play to respond to a couple of Knockainey points. Pa Holian replaced Shane O’Donoghue shortly after. Darren & Adam knocked over a point each. We then made a double substitution, Bob Frewen and Brian O’Connell coming on in place of Zach McCarthy and Cathal. Darren got two points from placed balls, while Keelan Riordan replaced Ciaran. There was no score for the last 5 minutes. The scoreboard at full time read 3-20 to 1-15 and we were presented with the Brendan Hickey Cup. Glenroe lined out as follows: David McCarthy, Oisin Browne, Shane O’Donoghue, Darren Carroll, Kyle McCarthy, Stephen Walsh, Eoghan Fitzgerald, Seán O’Donnell, Daniel Murphy, Zach McCarthy, Ciaran Kelly, Liam Dennehy, Darren Frewen, Cathal Dennehy, Daithi Dennehy. Tryrox at Glenroe GAA:
Glenroe GAA was a hive of activity last Saturday June 27th for the club’s first Tryrox event, a hybrid fitness challenge inspired by the global phenomenon HYROX. Despite a rainy start to the morning, the sun made an appearance just in time for our 10am start. The day saw participants tackle a demanding course in men’s, women’s and mixed doubles categories, with novice divisions in each.
Prize winners were: Mens; 1st – Tom O’Dwyer & Rory Higgins, 2nd Liam O’Donnell & Micheál Bourke, Womens; 1st – Maria Leahy & Rose Hyland, 2nd – Deirdre Murphy & Mairead Kelly, Mixed; 1st- Billy Finn & Aisling Guiney, 2nd – Marie Cremin & James Arnold.
Novice division winners; Mens; 1st – Harry & George Insley, 2nd – Mossie O’Brien & John Fox, Womens; 1st- Elaine Fenton & Amy Bradbury, 2nd – Mairead Hayes & Honor Hayes, Mixed; 1st – Steve & Katie Walsh, 2nd – Sean & Isobel Hanley.
The action didn’t stop there. In the evening, young athletes aged 9 to 16 took centre stage for Tryrox Junior, with more than 80 children from Glenroe Bord na nÓg and Camogie clubs taking part across all age categories. The junior event was a tremendous success, showcasing enthusiasm and determination of the club’s younger members.
Glenroe GAA would also like to thank everyone who participated, attended and supported the event throughout the day. A special word of appreciation goes to the many volunteers whose hard work ensured the event ran so smoothly. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Minor All-Ireland Hurling Champions!
Congratulations to Jack Meade and the Limerick Minor Hurling Team & Management on winning the All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship Final. The final score was 2-12 to 1-14. This is a tremendous achievement and all at Glenroe GAA are immensely proud.

Glenroe Bord na nÓg:
It has been a busy and exciting few weeks for Glenroe Bord na nÓg, with huge numbers of young players taking part in hurling activities across all age groups. From our youngest U7s right through to U17 level, it has been wonderful to see such strong participation, enthusiasm and commitment from players, coaches and families. Recent weeks have seen Glenroe host a number of successful blitzes and training sessions, welcoming clubs from across Limerick and neighbouring counties to our grounds.
There have also been several notable achievements on the field. Our U13 boys were crowned County Champions following a fantastic victory in the County Final, while many of our teams have continued to showcase great skill, teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the season.
The club is especially proud to see a number of Glenroe players representing their school, club and county. Jack Meade was part of the Limerick Minor panel that reached the All-Ireland Minor Championship Final stages, while Seamus McDonnell continues to represent Limerick at U14 level. We were also delighted to see Séimí Fox selected to play in the Primary Game at the Munster Senior Hurling Final.
Beyond the results and representative honours, the real success story is the continued growth of juvenile hurling in Glenroe. Monday evenings in particular have become a wonderful showcase for the club, with large numbers of children filling the pitches, learning new skills, making friends and enjoying the game in a positive and supportive environment.
None of this would be possible without the dedication of our volunteer coaches, committee members, parents and supporters who give so generously of their time throughout the year. Their efforts ensure that Glenroe Bord na nÓg remains a welcoming and vibrant place for young people to develop both on and off the field. As the season continues, we look forward to supporting all of our players and celebrating many more achievements in the weeks ahead.
