Sunday morning June 21st marked Week 4, the final week of our Tryrox Bootcamp at Glenroe GAA, and once again the turnout, energy, and effort were absolutely brilliant. Participants took their efforts out onto the Astroturf for a sunny outdoor session, testing the course for next Saturday’s Tryrox, followed by Coffee & Croissants in the Clubhouse. Preparations for Tryrox on June 27th are well and truly underway.

Tryrox 27th June 2026 – The Countdown is ON!

Glenroe GAA will host Tryrox on 27th June 2026. Tryrox is a fitness event inspired by the global phenomenon HYROX where participants combine running with functional movements. Participants complete a set distance run, followed by one functional movement, repeating this 8 times. Whether you’re a seasoned gym-goer, or looking for a new challenge with friends, this event is for you.

This is a pairs event. Categories for entry include: Mens/Novice Mens Doubles, Womens/Novice Womens Doubles, Mixed/Novice Mixed Doubles. Sample event summary for Mens Doubles event: Run 750m, Ski Erg 1000m, Run 750m, 50m Sled Push, Run 750m, 50 Over Box Jumps, Run 750m, 80m Burpee Broad Jump, Run 750m, 1000m Row, Run 750m, 200m Farmers Carry, Run 750m, 100m Lunge, Run 750m, 100 Wall Balls. Weights and distances vary depending on the category chosen to compete in. Weights and distances for Full Tryrox categories are fixed. Novice categories have extra flexibility for modification. Tryrox is for people of all abilities that are up for a challenge. The aim of the game is just to finish. Full details for each category can be found on Instagram and Facebook. Coffee, Tea and Refreshments will be available throughout the day. Yoghurt bowls, pastries and snacks will be available from the Clubhouse Coffee Shop throughout the Tryrox. Afternoon entertainment kicks off with the Minor All-Ireland Hurling Final Limerick v Tipperary being screened in the Marquee at 3pm. BBQ and Pizza Ovens will be fired up in the afternoon, fuelling up our Junior Tryrox participants for their evening event. Live music by Paul Frewen following Junior Tryrox.

Tryrox Junior – 27th June 2026

The adult Tryrox event will be followed by Tryrox Junior, a modified hybrid event for our young athletes aged 9-16. Categories will be split into age groups, starting with children aged 9-10 (born 2016-17), then age 11-12 (born 2014-15), concluding with Teen Tryrox for participants aged 13-16 (born 2010-13).

Movements and distances vary depending on the age category being competed in. All categories are being run as doubles events (boys doubles & girls doubles). Some of the movements included in Tryrox Junior are Box Jump Over, Bear Crawl, Sled Push, Wheel Barrow, Sandbag Carry and 3-Legged Race. Movements and distances vary depending on age category. Best of luck to Glenroe’s Jack Meade & the Limerick team in the minor All Ireland Hurling Final as they take on Tipperary this Saturday 27th June. Throw-in at 3pm in TÚS Gaelic Grounds. The game will be screened in the Marquee at Glenroe GAA.

We headed to Kilmallock to face Effin in the South Intermediate Championship Semi Final on Monday 15th June. Daithi Dennehy was quick off the mark, scoring two points from play in the opening minute. Darren Frewen responded to an Effin point with two points but Effin struck back with 1-01 to lead by one. It was nip and tuck for the next five minutes, as Effin hit two points, while Darren and Adam Frewen pointed from play. Pa Holian went off injured, with Bob Frewen replacing him. The sides were evenly matched in the second quarter, our scores coming from David McCarthy, Darren, Daithi and Adam. It was level pegging at half time, 0-12 to 1-09. Darren knocked over three frees, while Adam and Daithi pointed from play, along with a long range free from David in the opening 15 minutes of the second half. In this period, Effin got 1-02 to keep them in the game. In the following five minutes, we replied to two frees from Effin with two points of our own from Liam Dennehy and a Darren free, while Aaron Buckley was replaced by Brian O’Connell. In the last 10 minutes, we outscored our opponents four points to two, scores coming from the stick of Darren, Liam (two) and Ciaran Kelly, while Cathal Dennehy entered the fray for Adam. Full time score 0-24 to 2-15. Glenroe lined out as follows: David McCarthy, Oisin Browne, Pa Holian, Darren Carroll, Kyle McCarthy, Stephen Walsh, Aaron Buckley, Daniel Murphy, Shane O’Donoghue, Zach McCarthy, Ciaran Kelly, Liam Dennehy, Adam Frewen, Darren Frewen, Daithi Dennehy.
