County U21 Football Championship
Fr. Caseys 0-11 St. Kierans 0-11
Fr. Caseys U21 Footballers began their championship campaign last Friday night with a difficult challenge against west rivals St. Kierans. Both teams made the long trip to Rhebogue in Limerick City for this game, played in favourable conditions. In a very close encounter it was Fr. Caseys who headed to half time with a slender one point lead. The teams continued to trade scores as the second half resumed with Fr. Caseys leading by two points at the end of the third quarter. A brilliant penalty save by Shane O’Connell in the final quarter prevented the lead changing hands and while St. Kierans did eventually level proceedings, now also holding a numerical advantage the Fr. Caseys defence held firm in the closing minutes to hold on for a valuable 0-11 to 0-11 draw.
In the other group game Monaleen recorded an impressive 8 point victory over Na Piarsaigh meaning that Fr. Caseys must now look to capture maximum points this Friday when they face Na Piarsaigh in Kilbreedy, Martinstown with an 8pm throw in. We wish our U21 Footballers the very best of luck in the next two rounds as they bid for a place in the semi-final stages
