Development Units, covering the City, East, West and South of the county. This
landmark initiative represents a progressive and ambitious step in the implementation
of the Limerick GAA Strategic Plan. The creation of these Units reflects a clear
commitment to strengthening structures at local level and increasing participation in

Supporting the Cornerstone of the GAA – Our Clubs
Our clubs are the cornerstone and key drivers of the GAA. They are the heartbeat of our
community – places where lifelong friendships are formed and where young boys and girls
learn about teamwork, resilience and belonging.
The primary focus of the Regional Development Units will be to support, sustain and grow
clubs within their areas. The Units will work hand in hand with clubs and existing County
committees, providing practical support, guidance and renewed energy to help clubs
meet evolving challenges and seize new opportunities.
Practical Assistance Where It Matters Most
The Regional Development Units will focus on delivering real and meaningful support,
including:
• Supporting clubs in developing and implementing Strategic Plans
• Strengthening governance and administration
• Promoting volunteer recruitment and retention
• Building sustainable links between clubs and schools
• Encouraging inclusive participation and community engagement
• Assisting clubs in identifying and securing funding opportunitiesOpen, Inclusive and Community-Focused
Inclusivity will be central to this initiative. Limerick is a county rich in diversity and Limerick
GAA has an important role in ensuring that everyone feels welcome and valued.
The Regional Development Units will support clubs in reaching out to marginalised
communities and new citizens, breaking down barriers and fostering a genuine sense of
belonging. Increasing participation is not just about numbers on the field – it is about
building stronger, more connected and inclusive communities.
