CROOM GAA CLUB NOTES

Intermediate Hurling:
Last Saturday we played round 4 of the championship against Knockaderry in Ballingarry. This was a very tough match with Knockaderry fighting for their lives, and they raced out of the traps into a 1.02 to 0.01 lead after 3mins. We were playing against a stiff breeze and battled our way back to parity and it was nip, but they struck for their second goal once we got level. We battled back again and found the net near the end of the half to go in 1.10 to 2.05 ahead at the short whistle. The whole second half was up and down the field as Knockaderry dropped extra bodies back around the middle third and won breaks from our puck outs. There was never more than 3 points between the teams but we led the whole way until the final whistle, with the ref blowing it up as we missed a free with the last puck of the match, winning by a single point 1.16 to 2.12. This was one of those days when you had to dig in, grind it out, and win ugly without playing particularly well. We play Feoghanagh in the last match on Sunday September 1st at 1pm in Feenagh.
Junior A Football:
Round 3 of the county Junior A football championship v Crecora takes place this Sunday August 25th at 12noon in Fedamore. Please come along and cheer on the team as we try to make it 3 wins from 3.
Junior B Hurling:
Last week we lost out to Camogue Rovers in Banogue on a scoreline of 2.26 to 0.11 which means we can’t qualify to the knockout stages of the South championship.
Minors:
Unfortunately last Friday we had to give Blackrock a walkover in hurling due to unavailability of players. We are due to play Coshlea Gaels at home in hurling on Tuesday August 20th. See club Facebook for results.
U16s:
Our U16 footballers played Claughaun at home in the shield semifinal last week. Having to wait 30 mins for the referree to arrive, we started the game very strongly and played excellently for the first 15 minutes. However we slacked off and allowed Claughaun get 2 goals back and we went in 3.08 to 2.02 ahead at half time. We became complacent in attack and tracking back, allowing Claughaun to build their scores and grow into the game. In the end we steadied the ship to a degree and ran out 3.12 to 3.06winners. We await the winners of Adare and Mungret’s second team in the final.
U14s:
Our U14 hurlers play South Liberties away in the Division 3 shield semifinal on Saturday September 7th at 11am.
U10s:
Last Friday our U10 footballers played in a football blitz in Hospital. We played Galtee Gaels in the first game and after being down by 6 points with 5 mins left, we came back to win by 3. In our second game, we played Pallasgreen losing out by 4 points. In our final game we played Cappamore with the lads playing some outstanding football to win by 8 points. Panel: Conor O’Mahony, Tomas Costello, Odhran Mangan, Tommy Reidy, Riain Costello, Noah Reidy, Liam O’Donovan, and Harry McAteer. Each and every player gave their all on what was a very successful evening. Well done lads. Preparations are continuing for the Colm O’Regan tournament which we are hosting on September 14th.
