Premier Junior A Championship
Crecora Manister 2-20 Kilteely/Dromkeen 2-11
Crecora Manister played their second round of the Woodlands House Hotel Premier Junior A Championship against Kilteely Dromkeen in Hospital on Saturday evening. Both teams were on the back of good wins in their opening rounds and were very evenly matched on paper – and the opening 15 mins showed that, with very little between the teams. Crecora Manister laid the foundation for some well taken scores with a tight back 6 who didn’t give an inch to their opponents. It was the tenacity and work rate throughout the field that laid the foundation for Crecora to push ahead during the first half but credit to Kilteely Dromkeen, when the opportunity for a goal presented itself to them, they took it with both hands and kept the deficit to 4 points at the short whistle.
Crecora kept the pressure on in the second half and despite a second goal from Kilteely, 2 well taken goals for Crecora from Cathal and Mike sealed the win and another 2 points on the board.
Hurling takes a break now for two weeks with most of our players now switching codes to the big ball but we will be back in action for round 3 against Caherline in a few weeks time. Thanks to Hospital/Herbertstown GAA club for the use of their fine facilities. Paddy Lyons took charge on the night in the middle and contributed to a great game. Thanks as always for all the support on the sidelines. Minor Championship Minor Football:
Tory Hill Gaels 5-13 Galbally 1-11
The Tory Hill Gaels minor footballers took on Galbally on Wednesday evening in Croom in their second group match of the Championship. The home side got off to a good start and led at half time 3-08 to 0-04. The lads pushed on in the second half and played some great football, showing some great teamwork and skill to finish off comprehensive winners with a scoreline of 5-13 to 1-11. Well done to all players and management, keep it going lads.
Minor Hurling
Tory Hill Gaels 1-13 Blackrock 2-16
Tory Hill Gaels took on Blackrock in a top of the table clash in the Minor Hurling Championship on Tuesday evening in Kilfinane. The Tory Hill Gaels lads got off to a good start with a few nice scores but it was nip and tuck for most of the first half. After 20 minutes the green flag was raised to extend our lead 1.06 to 0.04. Just before the break, Blackrock got in for a goal of their own to leave the half time score THG 1.10 to Blackrock 1.08.
With the aid of the wind in the second half Blackrock caught up and scored a second goal and for 15 minutes were a goal ahead, with 2.11 to 1.11. Our lads did their best for the rest of the half and kept working hard but just couldn’t reclaim the lead.
Junior C Championship
Crecora/Manister 2-18 Na Piarsaigh 2-08
Crecora secured an impressive ten-point victory over Na Piarsaigh in a hard-fought and physical hurling clash. The first half proved to be a tight contest, with both sides evenly matched throughout. Neither team was able to gain a significant advantage, and they went into the break level.
Crecora came out with renewed energy in the second half and found another gear. Two crucial goals from Liam Mulqueen gave Crecora the platform to pull away, while Darach Skelly and the other forwards put in excellent performances to keep the scoreboard ticking over.
At the other end, Fergal Carey led a standout defensive display, helping to keep Na Piarsaigh at bay. Sean Keyes was also outstanding between the posts, producing a number of excellent saves at crucial moments to deny Na Piarsaigh any chance of mounting a comeback. With strong performances right across the pitch, Crecora continued to build their lead in the second half and eventually ran out convincing 2-18 to 2-08 winners. A great team performance and an impressive result.
