U14 Hurling

Bruff played Ballybrown last Wednesday evening in an eagerly anticipated playoff for a place in the County Under 14 semi final. There was a large crowd in attendance. Bruff raced into a three point lead with Michael O’ Riordan and Tommy O’ Rourke leading the charge with some superb scores. These were followed by a Tadhg Boddy goal. Ballybrown fought back and got four unanswered points. There was some excellent free taking from both Tadhg Boddy and Owen Meany which helped to extend Bruff’s lead. Michael O’ Riordan raced onto a ball from Ethan Cumes to rattle the onion bag. The half time score was Bruff 2-7 Ballybrown 0-4. Bruff started the second half like a team possessed. Every breaking ball was hotly contested. Hooks and tackles were at a premium. This was followed again by some well taken points from Sean Casey, Tadhg Boddy and some quick thinking by Owen Meany to extend the lead. However, Ballybrown never gave up and kept the Bruff defence honest. Bruff counter attacked at the end, Michael O’ Riordan again rattled the back of the net, with that the referee blew his whistle. There were some great scenes after the match as boys were delighted to make county semi final. Special mention to Mossy Boddy who seems to come up with game plans that Vince Lombardi would be proud of. The final score was Bruff 3-14 Ballybrown 0-4. It was a fantastic win and huge credit to the panel who have been on the go since November. The Bruff panel was J Hogan, B Noonan, K O’ Shea, B Gunning, J O’ Neill, O Meany, A Cusack, E Cumes, B Callinan, S Casey, M O’ Riordan, J Fitzgerald, T O’ Rourke, T Boddy, P Hennessy, C Cronin, J Boddy, P O’ Reilly, J O’ Connor, C Clancy, C Garvey. The players and management would like to wish Ethan Cumes and Sean Casey a safe journey on their travels and don’t forget the hurleys boys!
