Over the weekend Ballylanders Gaa took on Galbally Gaa in a distance derby were both clubs were battling it out on the roads rather than on the field. The objective was to get people from both communities to get out between 9am & 9pm on both Saturday & Sunday to walk, run or cycle, register your distance & donate to a specific go fund me page in association with pieta house & the response was absolutely astonishing with an incredibly €16,000 plus raised & even more incredible 19,000kms clocked up by both club’s,with Ballylanders just edging it after a long count.Massive credit goes to Danny Frewen,Jimmy Barry Murphy,Mike Fox & Pat Ryan who spear headed the event for Ballylanders & Garry McCarthy,Tom Quinlan & Karen Henerby on behalf of Galbally & to everybody big & small who turned out in all kinds of weather over the weekend to clock up the kilometres, thanks to Jason Frewen painter & decorator & Ger Fahy Horizon offsite who donated refreshments & to Pa Joe McCarthy for the use of a marquee. Thanks also to Dave Lonergan & Siobhàn Hayes who kept everyone informed on social media over the weekend.

The lotto draw takes place on Saturday night for a jackpot of €3,000 tickets on sale locally or online via the smartlotto website.
