Well done to our Junior Hurlers who beat Bruff on Sunday on a score line of 2-11 to 0-15.
The boys started slowly and Bruff took an early lead with some well taken points. Bally settled into the game gradually and Dan Owens and Conor McCarthy got the scoreboard ticking to give Bally a 1 point lead at half time.
The second half saw a much improved effort from Ballybricken. A turnover by Niall Martin saw the ball end up in the hands of Dan Owens who headed straight for goal and rattled the net. Bruff had responded well and it was as hard fought second half. With the game in the balance Conor McCarthy had an effort on goal saved but Dan Owens was ready to follow up and convert for his and Bally’s second goal of the evening. The last 10 minutes saw Bruff throw everything at Bally. Pa Byrnes was black carded for a last ditch tackle and Bruff awarded a penalty. John Pratt who was excellent with his puck outs all evening, saved the penalty for the second week in a row. He was required again minutes later for an excellent save to one again deny Bruff and finish the day with another clean sheet. Sean Teefy and Eoin Clifford were excellent in the full back line as Bruff probed for a winner which didn’t come and gave Bally their first win of 2026.
