Athea GAA Club Notes:
Mens Fixtures:
Woodlands House Hotel County Premier Junior A Football Championship
Group 2 – Round 5
Saturday 12th September at 1pm
Athea v Glin
Venue Ballyhahill Referee Michael Browne.
This is the last weekend of the group stages with Round 5 matches between Athea and Glin, Monagea vs Mungret St. Pauls, and Fr. Casey’s vs Kilteely Dromkeen. As things stand, we are on 6 points with Glin and Monagea on 7 points. It will take an Athea win and a Monagea loss for us to advance straight to the Semi-final, otherwise we will be in the quarter-final against second or third place in Group 1. So it is all up for grabs this Saturday and we are assured of at least one more game. The game against Glin brings local rivalry and both teams will want the win to keep their momentum going. Mark Reidy has his team well prepared and the match on Saturday in Ballyhahill should be very competitive. The more Athea support present, the better to get behind the team.

Huge well done to the Athea/Glin girls in their fine win over Mungret/St Pauls Monday evening in the County u14 semi-final on the scoreline of 3.11 to 2.6. They will now play in the final on the 26th of September. Best of luck to the girls and management team.
U12 Girls:
The under 12 Girls were out in great numbers for a brilliant game against Glin Emmets Friday evening. From the very start, they were fully committed, showing some fantastic fielding, tackling and blocking, while keeping their heads up and looking for that next pass. Up front, there was great efficiency in front of the posts, with the girls showing real confidence and composure. These games have brought the team on so much, and it’s fantastic to see them putting into practice the skills they’ve been working on each week. The improvement and development across the group has been brilliant to watch! A huge thanks to Glin Emmets for travelling up to us and for a great game. Well done girls, keep up the great work.
