Limerick Football Academy Players:
Well done to Daniel Hunt who played wing forward for the winning Limerick U16 team against Tipperary in Cashel Last Saturday. Well done also to Jack Leahy who was on the Limerick U15 team that won against Longford, in Longford. Hard luck to Tadhg Hunt & Kane Brouder who were unlucky to lose narrowly to a strong Clare team, in Clare in the U15 Humphry Kelleher Cup. Well done also to Shane Ahern who played wing forward for Limerick in the U14 Jim Power Tournament in Waterford against North Tipperary and West Cork. Athea GAA Club are very proud to have a total of five players involved in the various underage academy football teams.
Ladies:
Adult Junior Championship:
The Junior Championship starts this weekend for our adult team when they are away to Pallasgreen Sunday 9th August for an 11am start. These will be formidable opponents having contested the last two Junior Finals. We wish all the girls and management team of Nelius Hunt, Eamon O’ Callaghan, Mike Reidy and Liz O’ Sullivan the very best of luck.
U12 Girls – Munster Festival of Football:
Best of luck to our u12 girls playing in the Munster festival of football in Moyvane on Saturday 8th. We hope you have a wonderful experience.
U10 Girls:
Huge well done to our U10s who had a fantastic evening of football against Dromcollogher/Broadford on Tuesday. There was great heart, determination and teamwork shown throughout the game. A huge thank you also to a number of our U8s who stepped up and helped out – it was brilliant to see the younger players getting involved. And finally, a big thank you to Dromcollogher/Broadford for travelling to us and for a great game.
U8 Girls:
Huge well done to our U8 girls who were outstanding in both their matches on Wednesday night against St Senan’s and ABK. They showed fantastic skills, great teamwork and plenty of determination from start to finish. It is fantastic to see their confidence growing with every match and they should all be incredibly proud of themselves. A huge thank you to St Senan’s for organising the blitz, and of course all the parents for bringing and supporting the girls. Your continued support is greatly appreciated.
Mothers and Others:
Athea Mothers & Others are back training and everyone is welcome to join for fitness, fun and football. It doesn’t matter if you have played for 20 years or never kicked a ball in your life, come and join the ladies for a bit of craic at Athea GAA pitch on Wednesdays at 7pm.

U16 Hurling:
Our U16 hurlers were unlucky against a very strong ABK team last Monday night in Kilcornan. However, we made a great comeback in the second half, scoring 9 points. Training is changed to Thursday night this week at 7pm.
U8 Hurling:
Our U8 hurlers were in action on Saturday morning in Tournafulla, where they played three competitive games against Monagea and Tournafulla. It’s great to such great numbers each week for training and blitzes They are working hard on their skills and it is showing in these games. Keep up the good work.
Limerick U16 Hurling:
Our own Mark Collins represented Limerick U16 hurlers V Galway recently, scoring a point. Well done Mark you are doing yourself and the club proud!
Club Draw:
You can support Athea GAA Club by entering our Annual Club Draw. For €50, you stand a chance to win a share of €7,450 in guaranteed cash prizes, with over 40 winners taking home between €100 and €500 across five monthly draws starting this August. All proceeds go directly toward the daily maintenance of our club facilities and walking track. You can secure your ticket from our usual ticket sellers, any committee member, or by expressing your interest to an underage coach. Your support is greatly appreciated by all users of our wonderful facilities.
Underage Training:
Our Friday evening underage training from nursery to U12s continues from 6:30 to 7:30pm.
Hurling Training:
Hurling training continues Sunday mornings at 10am.

The most recent draw took place on Monday, 27th of July and the lucky winner of €347 was Pat Hunt, congratulations Pat. Thady Hunt accepted the prize on behalf of his son Pat. John Hunt, club chairman and Thady’s son, presented Thady with the cheque. The next draw will take place on Monday, 10th of August 2026.
