West Junior A Football Championship Quarter Final:
Adare 1-13. Athea 3-10
We claimed a three-point victory over Adare after an entertaining contest in which goals proved decisive. While Adare remained within striking distance for much of the game, Our ability to convert goal chances ultimately separated the sides.
We made an excellent start and established an early lead. Scores from Alan Kelly a goal from Denis Greaney, Evan Curry, a goal from Brian O’Connor, and TJ Hunt helped us build momentum in the first half. The two first-half goals were crucial in giving us control of proceedings.
Adare responded with a number of points to stay in touch, but we consistently found answers with Andrew O Riodan kicking a two pointer and a point as we carried a 5 point advantage into the interval on a scoreline of 2-06 to 0-7.
In the second half Adare mounted a challenge after the restart and reduced the deficit through a series of points. However, we responded strongly and continued to add scores through Hunt and Sean Ryan. A third goal by James Broderick proved a significant turning point. The goal restored breathing space and forced Adare to chase the game.
While substitutions helped maintain energy levels as the game entered its closing stages. Adare battled until the finish scoring a late goal and forcing an excellent save from Tomas Ahern as he tipped a goalward bound shot onto the cross bar which we cleared. However our earlier goal-scoring efficiency left them with too much to do.
The game finished on a scoreline of 3-10 to 1-13 as we advance to the semi-final.

West Junior B Football Championship Quarter Final:
Athea 1-10 Cappagh 1-12 AET
We bowed out of the West Junior B championship after extra time last Thursday in a well contested game against Cappagh.
Playing with the wind in the first half we started quickly with a point from James Broderick. Cappagh levelled shortly afterwards before Aidan Curry kicked a two pointer free. Tom Ahern kicked two points from play to add to our tally as we traded scores with Cappagh. A further free from Curry left us three points up at halftime with the score at 0-6 to 0-3.
In the second half against the wind the reverse scoreline was the case as Cappagh kicked three two pointers with the third one kicked in injury time to rescue a draw forcing extra time with the score was 0-9 to 0-9.
In extra time we conceded a goal to put us on the back foot. They added a further point to leave us 4 points down before Aidan Curry narrowed the margin to the minimum when he deflected Tomas Ahern’s shot past the Cappagh keeper. We were caught with breaches to end up under further pressure. Denis Greaney capped a fine individual performance when he tapped over a point which unfortunately wasn’t enough to get us back in contention. For the neutral this was an entertaining game which we will look back upon and know that with improved shooting we should have won. The final score was 1-10 to 1-12 as we bow out and now must focus on the Junior C Championship. U17 Boys:
County final
Caherconlish 7-11 Athea 3-09
Our u 17 team were well beaten by a strong caherconlish team on Monday May 25th in pallaskenry. It was a roasting hot evening and our young team gave it their all in a match played at a very fast pace. The opposition’s ability to get goals kept them well ahead despite our best efforts. We put in a very brave second half, trying to use the ball well and create opportunities. the final quarter was probably our best period as we had some dominance and were able to apply some pressure, it was heartening to see all the players never giving up till the final whistle. This was a good overall campaign with 4 matches played and exceeding expectations by reaching the final with 3 wins in our group games.

Most of the panel will be playing in the up coming u 16 football and Hurling championship and the u 18 football championship, so hopefully they will get plenty of matches over the summer.

Our Friday evening 6:30 to 7:30 underage training from nursery to U12s is back.
