County League- Division 6 R3:
Athea 2–12 | Banogue 6–6
We hosted Banogue in Round 3 of the County League Division 6 on Saturday evening in very windy conditions.
Banogue got off to a quick start with two early points before TJ Hunt and Andrew O Riordan got off the mark to level the game. However three Banogue goals in a five minute period midway in the first half put us under a lot of pressure. We reeled in the deficit with a good run of points from James Hunt, Andrew (tp), Dylan and TJ followed by Sean Ryan who scored three before halftime.
The halftime score was 0-12 to 3-02 with Banogue’s goals very much keeping them in the game.
Despite an early goal by Andrew, the second half proved a much tougher affair as Banogue took over and scored 3-04 without reply throughout the second half.
Brian O Connor scored a late goal to leave the final score Athea 2-12 Banogue 6-06.
The game is a real reminder of the expression goals win games.
Although the result didn’t go our way, with a number of senior players missing, this was another opportunity to give valuable game time to the younger players who will benefit from the game time. Panel Colin Broderick, Sean Twomey, Philip Daly, Pierce O’Brien, Eoin Sheahan, Callum Buckley, James Hunt (0-1), Jamie Collins, Andrew O Riordan (1-3,1tp), Jason Kelly (0-1), Dylan Griffin (0-2) , TJ Hunt (0-2), Brian O’ Connor (1-0), Sean Ryan (0-3), James Broderick
Subs Used: Kevin Murphy, Tadhg Ahern, Tomas G Ahern, Gavin Ambrose, Alan Kelly.

County League – Division 8 Round 3:
Athea 2-10. Na Piarsaigh 0-08
Athea produced a strong second-half display to secure an impressive eight-point victory over Na Piarsaigh, with two well-taken goals proving the difference between the sides.
The game began at a lively pace, with Na Piarsaigh opening the scoring and edging in front early on. Athea responded steadily, with Aidan Curry getting them on the board from a free before James Broderick added a point from play to level matters. The sides remained closely matched through the opening quarter, exchanging scores as the contest developed.
The turning point of the first half came midway through when Rory Cleary who had a great game found the net for Athea with a high ball over the keeper’s head. That goal gave Athea momentum, and although Na Piarsaigh continued to pick off points to stay in touch, Athea maintained a narrow advantage. By halftime, Athea led by two points, with the game still finely balanced.
After the break, Athea began to assert greater control. Points from Curry and Broderick stretched their lead, and their attacking play became more fluid and effective. Na Piarsaigh managed to keep the scoreboard ticking, but they struggled to break down a disciplined Athea defence.
Mark Reidy landed a two pointer in the 19th minute before the decisive moment arrived in the 24th minute of the second half when Jack Sexton struck for Athea’s second goal. Finishing clinically from close range, he extended the lead to ten points and effectively put the result beyond doubt.
Na Piarsaigh did pull back a couple of late scores, but without a goal, they were unable to mount any serious comeback.
This was a very good performance from the team who played with intensity throughout and secured this valuable win. The next match is a home match against Cappagh on Thursday April 16th. Panel Tomas Ahern, Cillian O Connor, Conor Fitzgerald, Pierce O’Brien, Tomas G Ahern, Martin Chawke, Gavin Ambrose, Tadhg Ahern, Michael Tierney, Rory Cleary (1-0), Brian O Connor, Michael Walsh, Tom Ahern, Aidan Curry(0-4,0-2f) James Broderick (0-4), Mark Reidy(0-2,tp), Jason Kelly, Jamie Collins, Jack Sexton (1-0), Wm Sexton, Dan McMahon, Jack Hunt, Gearoid O Sullivan, Colin Broderick.
