Results:
West Junior B Championship Semi Final
Athea 2-10 Glin 4-09
After our Quarter Final win against St. Senan’s we met Glin last Tuesday in the Semi-final for what was our third match against them this year.
We came into this game missing a few key players from our Final the previous Friday.
Sean Ryan opened our account with an early point. Glin responded in the eight minute when Ger Riordan hit the net. We dominated possession for the next 12 minutes getting the next 5 scores through Daire O’Shea and Sean Ryan (2) with James Broderick scoring a goal in the 18th minute and Sean Twomey adding a further point in the 20th minute.
Glin, however rallied back with scores from Fionn McNamara and Billy Hogan (goal) to take the lead in the 26th minute. Daire O’Shea made the game level just before half-time with a fine score to make it Athea 1-06 Glin 2-03.
In the second half, Neilus Hunt and Rory Cleary came for Aidan Curry and David O Connor. Sean Ryan put us ahead early with a free before Glin took a foothold and scored 1-03 with Ger Riordan getting his second goal.
Sean Ryan hit the net immediately and James Broderick added a point to narrow the gap to the minimum. Glin added two further points to stretch the lead to three in the 20th minute. Sean Ryan narrowed the gap back to one with a free and a point from play with a few minutes to go. Was this to be a repeat of the West Final? Alas no as Glin counter attacked to hit their fourth goal and in the dying minutes they added a further point to leave the final score Athea 2-10. Glin 4-09. Glin now advance to the Final.
