AHANE

East Senior League
Round four of the East Senior League saw Ahane welcome South Liberties to Mackey Park on a dull, wet Saturday evening. Both teams traded scores in the first half with Ahane’s first half points coming from Adam Murrihy (0-03 f), Ronan Fox (0-01), Ciarán O’Mara (0-01), Diarmuid McCarthy (0-01). Half time score Ahane 0-06 South Liberties 0-07. The second half got underway, and the rain continued to fall. Liberties got the first score of the half, but Adam added to his tally and the gap between the sides was one point. Ciarán O’Mara scored another point after a great passage of play. South Liberties continued to tap points over and with 43 minutes gone the score line was Ahane 0-08 South Liberties 0-11. Adam showed that what he can do from placed ball he can do from play as he scored a monster of a point to bring the gap to two points. We had a couple of goal chances, but we were denied by the posts and the South Liberties keeper. However, we did get our first goal curtesy of Daniel Minehan who was quickest to react when the South Liberties keeper batted down the long-range ball in from Adam. Dan’s goal put us two points in the led with seven minutes left on the clock. South Liberties stuck over another point and brought them to within a point before Andrew Shanahan slotted over a point of his own. Adam pointed another free, before he controlled the ball beautifully to pass it to Dan, who passed it to Ronan who made no mistake in burying it! With time up on the clock, referee Timmy McGrath blew the full-time whistle, and we came away with the win. Ahane 2-12 South Liberties 0-13.
City East Junior B Hurling Championship
Thursday saw our Junior B hurlers take on Na Piarsaigh in Mackey Park. Sean Madden got our first three points, with Tom Doheny getting our fourth one. Na Piarsaigh than took off on a scoring spree and scored seven unanswered points. Tom got his second score and our fifth after a great interception by Gearoid Harnett, who laid off the ball to Tom and Tom lathered it over the bar. Na Piarsaigh got two more points before Sean got a point from a free. Podge O’Connor got his first point and bought the gap down to five. Sean popped over another free and then a point from play. Na Piarsaigh got the last point of the half and at half time it was Ahane 0-09 Na Piarsaigh 0-14. We came out all guns blazing in the second half and got points from Sean, Andrew Minehan and Tom. Na Piarsaigh slotted over scores themselves and but we kept our scores rolling again with points from Tom, Andrew, and Sean. We managed to bring the gap to one, but Na Piarsaigh got another point. Seanie O’Connor got a stunning score, followed but Andrew Minehan and again we had it at one point. Na Piarsaigh got the second last point of the game and the final point of the game was Tom Doheny’s but unfortunately we ran out of time and lost out by the smallest of margins. Final score Ahane 0-20 Na Piarsaigh 0-21.
