Daly’s late point seals quarter-final spot for Granagh-Ballingarry-Croom
Limerick County U20 B Hurling Championship Group 3 Round 3:
Granagh-Ballingarry-Croom 3-16 Croagh-Kilfinny-Rathkeale 3-15
A well-taken point from a 30 metre free by Jack Daly one minute into added time paved the way for a thrilling one point 3-16 to 3-15 victory for Granagh-Ballingarry-Croom over Croagh-Kilfinny-Rathkeale in the first round of Group 3 in the County U20 B Hurling Championship under lights at Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale on Wednesday night to finish joint top of Group 3 on four points with Belville Gaels (Feenagh-Kilmeedy-Feohanagh-Castlemahon) to qualify for a quarter final meeting with Blackrock.
This vital clash of neighbours in Group 3 of the County U20 B hurling championship was played in dry cold conditions on an excellent pitch in front of a good crowd who gave great support to their sides with Michael Browne of Dromcollogher-Broadford in charge. It was a thrilling hard fought 37 score contest between two fine sporting sides with the issue in doubt right up to the final whistle. The opening five minutes were close and exciting with white flags traded by Darragh O’Carroll play and Jack Daly free, Jack Mulqueen and Tim Molyneaux from open play before a pair of white flags for Granagh-Ballingarry-Croom from open play courtesy of Tom Horgan on 6 minutes and Luke Murphy on 8 minutes were cancelled out by Patrick Hartigan on 10 minutes and Maurice Lenihan 2 minutes later to leave the sides level for the third time at 0-4 each on 12 minutes. A couple of wides were exchanged before a pair of white flags from open play for Croagh-Kilfinny-Rathkeale courtesy of Declan Walsh on 14 minutes and Tim Molyneaux on 17 minutes were cancelled out by Jack Daly from a placed ball on 19 minutes and from open play three minutes later to level the scores for the fourth time at 0-6 each on 22 minutes. The Granagh-Ballingarry-Croom boys dominated for the next 5 minutes with white flags by Jack Daly from a placed ball on 23 minutes and Shane O’Brien from open play on 25 minutes before Luke Murphy finished past Croagh-Kilfinny-Rathkeale keeper Jack Giltinane 2 minutes later to leave 5 between the sides, Granagh-Ballingarry-Croom 1-8, Croagh-Kilfinny-Rathkeale 0-6 on 27 minutes. The opposition far from being overawed with 4 unanswered white flags from open play through Owen Dee on 28, Declan Walsh on 29, Cian Costello on 29 and Sonny Madigan on 31 minutes before Granagh-Ballingarry-Croom No. 6 Eoin Horgan split the uprights from a 70metre placed ball 2 minutes into added time to leave two between the sides, Granagh-Ballingarry-Croom 1-9, Croagh-Kilfinny-Rathkeale 0-10 at the interval.
Tom Horgan increased the Granagh-Ballingarry-Croom boys’ advantage to 3 when he split the uprights from open play in the opening minutes after the interval before a pair of green flags for the opposition through Jim Molyneaux on 32 minutes and Collum Harrington a minute later to leave 3 between the sides, Granagh-Ballingarry-Croom 2-10, Croagh-Kilfinny-Rathkeale 1-10 on 33 minutes. Tom Horgan and Paul Griffin had wides for Granagh-Ballingarry-Croom before Maurice Lenihan of Croagh-Kilfinny-Rathkeale split the uprights from open play on 36 minutes and he finished past Granagh-Ballingarry-Croom keeper Ben Daly 2 minutes later before white flags were traded from open play by Darragh Carroll on 40 minutes and Jack Daly a minute later to leave six between the sides Croagh-Kilfinny-Rathkeale 3-12, Granagh-Ballingarry-Croom 1-12 on 41 minutes.
After 3 minutes of scoreless play Shane O’Brien finished past the opposition’s defender Jack Giltinane at the end of the third quarter before white flags were traded from placed balls by Declan Walsh on 47 minutes and Jack Daly on 49 minutes, Jack Daly on 50 minutes and Declan Walsh on 53 minutes to leave 3 between the sides, Croagh-Kilfinny-Rathkeale 3-14, Granagh-Ballingarry-Croom 2-14 on 53 minutes. A couple of wides were exchanged before Granagh-Ballingarry-Croom No No. 9 Luke Murphy split the uprights from open play on 56 minutes before Jack Daly finished past Croagh-Kilfinny-Rathkeale keeper Jack Giltinane two minutes later to put the Granagh-Ballingarry-Croom boys one ahead 3-15 to 3-14 on 58 minutes. Declan Walsh of Croagh/Kilfinny-Rathkeale made the sides level for the 5th time when he split the uprights from a placed ball on 59 minutes and a draw looked likely but Jack Daly of Granagh-Ballingarry-Croom landed a last gap winner from a 30 metre place ball one minute into added time to bring his tally for the game to 1-9 (0-6 frees) to seal a one point 3-16 to 3-15 victory for Granagh-Ballingarry-Croom in a thrilling 37 score contest to finish joint top of Group 3 in the County U20 B hurling championship on four points with Belville Gaels (Feenagh-Kilmeedy-Feohanagh-Castlemahon) to qualify for a quarter final meeting with Blackrock.

Blackrock book semi-final spot with one point win:

Blackrock booked their place in the semi-final of the Limerick County Under 21 B hurling championship with a hard fought one point 0-14 to 1-10 victory over gallant Granagh-Ballingarry-Croom in difficult wet and windy conditions at Fitzgerald Park, Kilmallock on Sunday afternoon. A good crowd turned out to watch this County U20 B Hurling Championship quarter-final despite the wet and windy conditions played on heavy underfoot conditions. The Blackrock boys with the wind at their backs dominated the opening 14 minutes at Fitzgerald Park with 8 unanswered white flags through their No. 11 Shane Philpott (five, 1 play, 3 frees, 1 65) and one each from open play by Niall Ryan, TJ Buckley and Adrian Beqiri before the Granagh-Ballingarry-Croom boys finally opened their account when Ben Ryan finished past Blackrock keeper Evan Heffernan on 15 minutes to reduce the deficit to 5, Blackrock 0-8, Granagh-Ballingarry-Croom 1-0 at the end of the first quarter. Shane Philpot increased the Blackrock boys’ advantage to 6 when he split the uprights for the fourth time from a placed ball on 29 minutes before white flags were traded from place balls by Jack Daly on 23 minutes and Philpot 2 minutes later to leave 6 again between the sides, Blackrock 0-10, Granagh-Ballingarry 1-1 on 25 minutes. Shane Philpot extended the Blackrock boys’ advantage to 8 from placed balls on 27 and 29 minutes before the last score of the opening half fell to Jack Daly of Granagh-Ballingarry-Croom who split the upright from a placed ball on 30 minutes to leave 7 between the sides, Blackrock 0-12, Granagh-Ballingarry-Croom 1-2 at the interval. The Granagh-Ballingarry-Croom boys were hit with a major blow in the opening minute after the interval when they lost their No. 9 Luke Murphy due to a leg injury, who was replace by Rory Lnch who made his presence felt straight away with a well taken point from open play on 32 minutes before white flags were traded by Eoin Horgan on 34 minutes and Shane Philpot 2 minutes later to leave 6 between the sides, Blackrock 0-13, Granagh-Ballingarry-Croom 14 on 36 minutes. The Granagh-Ballingarry-Croom boys with the wind at their backs dominated the next 18 minutes with a trio of white flags from open play through Sean Og Cahill Hayes on 38 minutes, Darragh O’Donoghue on 44 minutes and Eoin Horgan on 50 minutes before Jack Daly split the uprights from a placed ball 4 minutes later to reduce the deficit to two, Blackrock 0-13, Granagh-Ballingarry-Croom 1-8 on 54 minutes. Shane Philpot split the uprights from a placed ball for the 9th time for Blackrock on 56 minutes to bring his tally for the game to 0-11 (9 frees, 1 play, 1 65) to increase the boys in green and white advantage to 3 before Jack Daly won points back from placed balls for Granagh-Ballingarry on 59 and 61 minutes to reduce the deficit to the minimum, which was too little too late for the boys in blue and referee. Johnny Murphy of Ballylanders sounded the final whistle shortly after to leave Blackrock one point 0-14 to 1-10 if only just winners of a hard fought sporting contest and a place in the County U20B Hurling Championship Semi Final meeting with Ballybricken/Bohermore/Fedamore. The Granagh/Ballingarry/Croom boys were gutted to have lost but they secured a semi final spot by a point. They were very sporting in defeat and wished Blackrock the best of luck in the semi final, Blackrock scored 0-4 from play, 0-9 from frees and 0-1 from a 65. Granagh/Ballingarry/Croom scored 1-4 from play and 0-6 from frees.

€12,900 Jackpot on Saturday:
There was no winner of the €12,900 jackpot in the Granagh Ballingarry GAA Club lottery held on Saturday 22nd November in Condron’s Bat, Ballingarry. The numbers drawn were 4, 6, 8 and 24. The lucky dips of €20 each went to Patsy Power, Tom Moloney, Mike Condron and Eamonn Hourigan. The next draw will be held on Saturday 29th November in the Rock Bar, Granagh for a jackpot of €12,900. Tickets are €2 each or three for €5 and are on sale in local shops, bars and from promoters. County U20B Football Championship Opener:
Pallasgreen is the venue on this Saturday 29th November at 2pm for the meeting of Granagh/Ballingarry/Croom and Pallasgreen in the opening round of Group 4 in the Limerick County U20B Football Championship which is being run on an all-county basis on a league system and 16 teams have indicated that they will take part. There are four groups of four with the top two teams in each group to qualify for the county quarter final.
Group 1: Hospital/Herbertstown, Askeaton/Ballysteen/Kilcornan Camogue Rovers, St. Kieran’s.
Group 2: St. Patrick’s, Ballybricken/Bohermore/Fedamore/Killacolla Gaels and Cappamore.

November County Club Draw:
The next Limerick County GAA Club Draw will be held on Saturday 29th November with a top prize of €10,000. There are a host of other prizes to be won, 2nd €3,000, 3rd €2,000, 4th €1,000, 5th Executive Star Prize, 6th to 9th €500, 10th to 13th €300, 14th to 30th €200, Granagh Ballingarry had 198 members in the eight draw in October and four winners to date; Club Chairperson Andrew Holmes and Noreen Hennessy won €200 in the first draw in March, Mary Horgan €200 in July and Richard Chawke €200 in August.
