Our under 14 hurlers opened their Feile campaign in style with a hard fought win over a tough Doon outfit in Doon on Sunday morning. Played in wet and windy conditions both teams served up an excellent game for what would really be a first real competitive game for both sides.
Playing with the wind in the first half we played well and battled bravely with some excellent scores from Charles Hogan and his brother Marcus who showed his craft from placed balls contributing 5 points over the 40 minutes. Patrick O Neill was quick on the rebound to raise our first green flag of the day to leave us a solitary point in front at the break 1-4 to 1-3. We began the second half well and stretched our lead with a point from Marcus Hogan and a fortuous goal from a long range shot from Dylan Lynch to put 6 points between us. Doon battled back with a goal of their own before substitute Wayne Kearns scored our third goal. Once again Doon replied with their third goal to set up a grandstand finish and Marcus Hogan tacked on our insurance point to give the lads a much deserved win. Overall the management are extremely happy with the lads with some excellent performances from John Fitzgerald, Callum Dunworth, Dylan Lynch, JJ Carey and Jim Beary in goals who made his bow between the sticks and performed admirably. Team Jim Beary, Adam Long, John Fitzgerald, Cormac Benson, Callum Dunworth, Dylan Lynch (1-0), Cathal Hassett, Dylan Skehan, JJ Carey (capt), Marcus Hogan (05f), Sean Patrick O Halloran, Vince Harrington, Charles Hogan (0-1), Patrick O Neill (1-0), Cian Brosnan. Subs used: Shane Kelly, Wayne Kearns (1-0), George Cussen and Luke Hegarty. Final score Na Piarsaigh 3-6 Doon 3-3.
