Congratulations:

Congratulations to Monaleen players Andrew La Touche Cosgrave and Lorcan Lyons who were members of the Limerick U21 hurling squad which defeated Kilkenny in the All-Ireland final on Saturday last at Semple Stadium, Thurles.

Planning Decision:

Monaleen GAA club are delighted with the recent An Bord Pleanála decision to grant permission for lighting to the hurling wall and courts. We will keep you updated on the progress of this project.

Driveway Works:

Driveway works are progressing at a steady pace. Preparatory groundworks are almost complete and the tarmac surface will be applied this week.

Block in the Wall:

We will begin inscribing names on the wall very soon. If you haven’t booked yours there is still a small window of opportunity. The Club would like to thank you all for your ongoing support during these works.

Lotto:

There was no winner of last week’s jackpot of €20,000 which was drawn on Thursday, September 7. The numbers drawn were 19, 22, 34 and 36. Lucky dips of €50 each, D Carroll, Monaleen Pk, J Fitzgerald C/o Leo, K O’Connor Heathedale, P Maher/P Quinn C/o Club. Our jackpot has now reached its maximum allowed limit of €20,000 and will remain at this level until some lucky winner carries off the big prize. Tickets can be purchased on a weekly basis from local shops and pubs and the draw is held every Thursday night in the club at 10pm.

Cards:

The 45 drive takes place every Thursday at 9pm.

Senior Football:

The senior football team had an excellent win over Oola in their county championship quarter-final at a wet Kilbreedy on Thursday night last. Monaleen will now face Newcastle West in the county semi-final in Kilmallock on Sunday, September 24 at 3.45pm.

Fixtures:

Senior Hurling:

The senior hurlers will take on South Liberties in the semi-final of the county senior hurling cup in Caherconlish at 3pm on Saturday. All support would be welcome.

Minor Football:

We are due to face Rathkeale in the County premier minor football semi-final on Wedmesday, September 20 in Kilbreedy at 8pm

Juvenile Club News:

Registration:

Monaleen juvenile GAA registration is now open for the 2017/2018 season. The season runs from September 2017 to August 2018. Thanks to all those who have registered already. To register please go to www.monaleen.gaa.ieclick on “Club Units” then click on “Registrar – membership” and scroll down to the “Juvenile section club membership” where you will be able to complete your registrations. All kids training and playing with Monaleen GAA must be registered for safety and insurance purposes.

Fixtures:

U13 Hurling:

The U13 hurlers are due to host Kilmallock in their opening game in division 1 of the U13 hurling league on this Wednesday night, September 13, at Peafield Road at 6.30pm.

Training Times:

Juvenile training is now in full swing on the pitches so look out for communication from the coaches as to the times and venues.

Camogie Club News:

U14s:

On Tuesday our U14 girls played Crecora in Fedamore. A tough match was expected. The Monaleen girls rose to the occasion and played their best camogie since the Feile finals in Wexford. At half-time it was 0-6 to 0-0 with a battle for every ball and some great performances from Amy Kavanagh, Abi Houlihan, Mia O Halloran and Juliette Pinson plus goalie Aimee O Brien. The second half followed a similar pattern with Monaleen adding to the score with Crecora struggling to make an impact against some great defending. Final score was Crecora 0-0 to Monaleen 3-12. A comprehensive victory. Next up is a county semi-final at home v Newcastle West. Panel Aimee O’Brien, Mia O Halloran, Aoife Sheehan, Aoife Doyle, Aoife Nelligan, Ella Hession, Laura Brennan, Charley Drury, Emily O’Halloran, Amy Kavanagh, Clodagh Power, Grace Clohessy, Grace Malone, Emily O’Brien, Kerrie Carey, Amy Burke, Niamh Moloney and Abi Houlihan.

U16s:

Our U16s girls travelled to Knockaderry on Friday to play Templeglantine. Both teams had a win in the competition so this was a crucial game. Monaleen started well and kept the scoreboard ticking over to run out winners 3-10 to 2-6.

Junior A:

On Sunday our Junior A girls played away to Patrickswell. While the performance was a big improvement on the previous match the result was a second defeat. The girls need to win their last two games now to have a chance of making a semi-final.

Courts:

Courts can be booked on the sheets at the noticeboard on the bottom court. Tokens can be purchased in the bar [1 token is €3 and lasts for 45 minutes]. Tennis balls and club gear can be purchased from Declan at 087-6823289. Coaching is available for all levels of player. Please contact Jennifer Colford at 085-7104935. There are bins located outside the courts. Please ensure that you remove any rubbish from the courts when your game is finished.

Monaleen GAA welcomes Slimming World to the clubhouse each Tuesday. Class times are as follows: 9.30. 11.30. 3.30, 5.30 and 7.30. Everyone is welcome.
