Limerick GAA will commemorate the events of 1916 over the weekend of 22-24th April 2016. This weekend has been chosen as Easter Monday,1916, fell on 24th April that year. We will celebrate also the Gaelic revival of language, culture and sport which occurred in the years leading up to the Rising.
The following is the programme of events:
Aoine 22ú Aibreán ag 7 30 pm: Finals of Scór na bPáistí i Millenium Centre, L.I.T, Cathair Luimnigh.
Satharn 23ú Aibreán ag 8pm: Evening of music, song, poetry, dance in The Clubhouse, Kilmallock GAA, kilmallock.
Domhnach 24ú Aibreán 10 30 ar maidin: Commemorative Mass of 1916 including presentation of all club banners in St. John’s Cathedral, Cathair Luimní. The Cathaoirleach, Rúnaí, Cisteoir agus Oifigeach na Gaeilge of all clubs will be present. These officers will process with the banner up the main aisle, at the start of 10 30 mass and recess in the same manner at the end. At all club matches on April 24th, the proclamation will be read,
our national flag will be raised, and Amhrán na bhFiann will be sung.
We believe these events will be a fitting manner to commemorate the Rising of 1916 and the events in earlier years which created a sense of Irish identity and Nationalism, including the founding of our own organisation in 1884 and that of Conradh na Gaeilge in 1893. Go leanaimís le dilseacht agus crógacht na mbunaitheoirí sin.
