St Patrick’s 0 11 Glenroe 0 13
Our hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages were ended on Saturday evening in Hospital following a a closely fought battle with Glenroe.
Playing against a strong breeze in the first half, St Patrick’s were well in the game after the first quarter with the score at seven points to three. Glenroe had a purple patch late in the half and this stretched the lead to eight points going in at the break.
The second half started with two quick scores from Wayne Cronin and Calvin Moran and St Patricks were first to every ball. Gearoid Hegarty cut the margin further followed by a Calvin Moran free. Glenroe were to score next and this gave them that bit more of a cushion to hold onto for the closing stages. Again we pushed for more scores and were dominating, unlucky not to find the target with a couple of goal chances and wides, with the swirling breeze making conditions difficult.
The lead was down to one with added time to play and we knew a draw would not be enough to qualify. A couple of long range deliveries into the square were defended stoutly by Glenroe and they lifted the siege with a late free to put two points between the teams. A last delivery from our own 21 was dropped into the danger zone but again Glenroe came out with the sliotar and there was disappointment for all concerned at the sound of the full time whistle.
A huge effort from all the panel who will be dissapointed at narrowly missing out on qualification for the second year in a row. There is huge hope within the current panel and with quiet a number of talented young hurlers emerging in the next few years, St Patrick’s will be challenging for honours in the coming years with continued improvement.

Shane Cross:
Congratulations to St Patrick’s Shane Cross and his Limerick team mates on winning the Arrabawn Shield Under 15A Hurling Final on Saturday following a 4-14 to 3-12 win over Wexford.
U6/8/10 Hurling Blitz
St Patrick’s Club field hosted an underage hurling blitz on Thursday night when teams from across the city were present with U6, 8 and 10 hurling teams. The vast space in Rhebogue was perfect for the huge numbers of kids and parents present and with the perfect weather for hurling and both pitches in splendid condition, it made for a very enjoyable night for all present.
Special mention to our own St Patricks teams, stars of the future, who performed very strongly.
Girls Football:
Well done to St Patrick’s players Ellen, Maddie and Molly who played with the Limerick U13 Girls Football Academy yesterday in CIT.
Our U14s were in action away to Knockainey. The girls were to pay for a slow start, however rallied in the second half to net some lovely scores and have some great passages of play. Thanks to those who travelled and gave lifts.
Our U12s were in action against Cappagh in their opening game of the championship. In challenging conditions scores were hard to come by, but the girls kept the scoreboard ticking over. Leading at half time, they went on to win the game with a scoreline of 2 5 to 2 2. The girls are now through to the quarter finals. Well done to all.
