South Liberties GAA Club Notes
Our Senior’s season ended on Sunday at The Gaelic Grounds when we were well beaten by hot
favourites Patrickswell in the quarter final of the County Championship. Liberties were a little
slow into their stride in the opening exchanges but after 8 minutes nice scores by David O Neill
and Brian Ryan would see the teams level at 3 points each. Over the next 15 minutes the teams
were level on five occasions and with 22 minutes on the clock the scores were tied at 0:07 to
0:07. Paul Butler’s excellence between the Liberties posts was a key reason for this scoreline.
However, the well drilled Patrickswell 15 moved up a gear in the minutes before halftime and
the dominance of their halfback line provided the momentum for their forwards to start finding
the range. The half time score would see Liberties adrift on a 1:13 to 0:09 scoreline.
The second half would see Liberties struggle with the pace of Patrickswell and with wind
advantage the favourites now pulled well ahead. The final score was Patrickswell 1:26 – 1:13
South Liberties. Best of luck to the ‘Well in the semi final.
Best for the green and gold were Paul Butler who made some fine saves, Pa Carroll at full back,
Conor McSweeney (0:01), Shane O Neill, Brian Ryan (1:10) and David O Neill( 0:01)
Our under 14 hurlers are coming towards the end of their season and excitement is building in
the Parish as they prepare for a County Final versus Blackrock next weekend at a time and
venue TBC. With 7 wins and one loss they topped their group and qualified for the County Semi
Final last weekend. Pallasgreen were the opponents and in a very exciting game the Liberties
lads came out with a victory on a 2:04 to 1:03 scoreline. Ryan Godfrey chipped in with 1:03 and
Joe Buckley scored 1:01 and both of these exciting players had great games. All of the boys
had great games but special mention must go to Joe Hegarty, Arthur O Donnell and Luke Ryan
who were outstanding.
Our under 16 hurlers had a great season this year finishing 3rd in their group before losing to
eventual County Champions Granagh Ballingarry in the County Semi Final
