South Liberties GAA Club Notes
South Liberties 4-10 Ahane 2-04
Our junior footballers began the new all county junior A football championship with a good win over our east rivals Ahane in Fedamore last Thursday evening. We started the game well pushing forward from the throw in but some wayward shooting saw us miss a couple of good scoring chances. Our first score came from Brendan McSweeny when he burst through the Ahane defence and slotted home our first goal. This was followed by a point from Barry Walsh but Ahane hit back with a goal of their own. Points from John Hickey and Sean Keane saw us increase our lead.
With 10 minutes left in the first half we scored a second goal with Brendan McSweeney getting the final touch for his second goal of the game. A point followed from Brendan Ahern but as the half time whistle approached Ahane hit back with a
goal and two points to give us a slender lead at the break on a score of 2-04 to 2-03.
A few positional changes at the break from experienced manager Mike Keane saw us take control of the game with Daniel Hurley quickly raising a green flag and points from Cathal O Neill and Sean Keane (3) increased our lead. Great defending at the other end lead by captain Derek Lynch saw us limit Ahane to one point in the second half. With fresh legs introduced from the bench Gabriel Burke O Dwyer finished well for our final goal. Points from Daniel Hurley and John Hickey saw us win out on a score line of 4-10 to 2-04.
