Na Piarsaigh GAA Club Notes
Our senior hurlers returned to action on Saturday evening in Round 4 of the County Senior Hurling Championship.
Headquarters was the venue and our opponents were Adare.
We welcomed the return of Alan Dempsey and All Ireland winner Peter Casey to the team following lengthy absence through illness and injury.
We began the action swiftly and ace attacker Adrian Breen had a brilliant point on the board inside 30 seconds. This was swiftly followed by a fine point from Tommy Grimes from the restart.
Shane Dowling showed his prowess from placed balls converting 5 in the first half.
Kevin Downes added 2 fine points from near the left hand touch line showing glimpses of his undoubted capability.
Adrian Breen and David Dempsey added 2 more before Peter Casey added our first goal on the stroke of half time.
Incidentally it was Adare who may feel aggrieved because moments earlier the had a goal disallowed for what appeared to be square ball.
A Shane Dowling free ended the half to leave us 1-11 to 0-9 in front .
In the second half Adrian Breen continued as he did at the start of the first half and had 2 more points on the board inside 5 minutes.
On 6 minutes Conor Boylan saw his individual effort disallowed for steps when it appeared he had played the ball legally.
Substitute Alan Dempsey hit a fine point on 15 minutes and a Kevin Downes point sandwiched between 2 further Shane Dowling frees had us 1-17 to 0-12 in front.
Adrian Breen rounded off a fine display firing a goal and a point in quick succession to leave a personal tally of 1-5 from play for a fine evenings work.
His goal a well worked moved with a fine pass from Shane Dowling and excellent finish to seal a good win.
Overall a good win with plenty for the management to ponder.
A semi final spot is now guaranteed with one match remaining against Patrickswell in 2 weeks time.

Our intermediate team who have suffered badly with injuries over the last few weeks with the loss of Kieran Daly, Evan Egan and Joe Gleeson in the recent weeks with long term injuries.
We faced a formidable Glenroe team under lights in Martinstown on Friday night.
Once again a much changed side with the unavailability of David Sheppard and Gordon Brown but nevertheless we fielded a strong but relatively youthful side for the game.
We began well and got some excellent scores from full forward Kevin Daly(2) along with excellent pointed frees from Will Henn.
However Glenroe began to get on top and had a four point gap opened before a brilliant save by Evan Condon kept us in the game mid way through the half.
This appeared to give us an injection of belief and we rattled off some excellent points after that to trail by a point at the break 0-12 to 0-11.
We were hurling well now with Evan O Brien and james O Brien marshalling a defence which played well.
Conor Houlihan and Pauric Heaney were prominent upfront as was Will henn who rounded off an excellent performance with a well taken goal following a brilliant flick from Pauric Heaney to end with a personal tally of 1-10.
With a final round game versus Claughaun Old Christians to come it was a good boost for the lads who now look like are unfortunately not likely to qualify for the knockout stages due to NCW’s draw on Saturday.
