MUNGRET ST PAUL’S GAA CLUB NOTES

ST. STEPHENS DAY MATCH
White Team (Hurlers ) 3-20 Red Team (Footballers) 7-9
This was an entertaining game to watch finishing on a competitive last 10 minutes.
It was a game of 4 quarters (to give those of less training extra breaks). Both sides had an equal amount of female players who where getting to grips in the first quarter but started to confirm their place on the pitch in the rest of the game. The Hurlers opened the game with a point but it did not take long for the Footballers to reply with a goal. The Hurlers fought back and by the end of the first quarter it was all square 0-4 to 1-1.
The second quarter was the Hurlers quarter as they brought their score up 2 goals and 7 points while the footballers looked a little lost as they only added another 2 goals and 2 points. Giving the Hurlers a 5 point lead.
The third quarter was a more competitive game seeing the Footballers take ownership on the game and lessening the gap to only 2 points. There were some fantastic saves by the goalies throughout the game and some skilled passes. It was the final quarter that the game took off and the competitive side came out in the players as each player worked hard to get possession. The game leveled up with only 7 minutes left the footballers pulled ahead with 2 points, the hurlers are not ones to sit back they powered on and leveled the score again but the last kick of the ball was the winning kick for the Footballers.
We would like to Thank everyone who was involved in the planning of this game, a big Thank you to the players for taking to the pitch and supplying the food and raffle prizes. To Maureen O’Doherty for her catering skills, Annette Patterson for her art skills in facepainting, Geraldine Dee for the gate collection and Wanda Dwane for the photographs.
