MONALEEN GAA CLUB NOTES
SENIOR HURLERS: The Monaleen senior hurling team played out an exciting 2-13 to 0-19 draw with Garryspillane in their second round game in the Bon Secours Hospital, Limerick county senior hurling championship fixture at Caherconlish on Saturday evening. Having trailed by 2-9 to 0-9 at half-time, Monaleen fought back bravely in the second half with captain Ed Doyle scoring the equalising point to secure a share of the spoils. Monaleen have taken three points from a possible four in the championship following their opening weekend victory over Ahane. The club championship takes an extended break now as the Munster senior hurling championship takes centre stage.
LIMERICK MINOR FOOTBALLERS: Best of luck to Rian McBrearty, of Monaleen, who is a member of the Limerick minor football squad which takes on Tipperary in Round 3 of the Electric Ireland Munster Minor Football Championship Phase 1 on this Wednesday April 24 at 7pm in Sean Treacy Park, Tipperary Town.
FÉILE Na nGAEL: Our U14 hurling team were beaten in the Féile na nGael Division 1 county final on Easter Sunday at Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale by Na Piarsaigh. In Sunday morning’s semi-final, Monaleen held a slender one-point lead over Doon, 0-4 to 0-3 at half-time, but we hit top form after the break to record a 4-8 to 0-4 success. Na Piarsaigh began the final the better and led 1-9 to 0-6 at half-time. Monaleen rallied in the second half to get within three point of their opponents. However, the Caherdavin side managed to pull clear in the closing minutes to record a deserved 1-15 to 1-8 victory. Monaleen had beaten Na Piarsaigh in the group stages of the Féile, but didn’t quite manage to hit that form on Sunday. This talented bunch of players and coaches can be proud of their fine run in Féile this year and the experience is sure to stand them in good stead ahead of the start of the U14 county championship.
U16 HURLING: Well done to our U16 hurlers and coaches on their excellent 1-16 to 1-13 win over Newcastle West in Division 1 of the U16 championship in Monaleen on Tuesday last.
BRICK IN THE WALL: Monaleen GAA club is relaunching the hugely successful “Brick in the Wall” campaign. Bricks are available for €100. Orders will be taken up to the 30th April, with payment to be made before the brick is created. The Club is also selling advertising signage within the Clubhouse Field Grounds, at a cost of €300 per year. The funds raised go towards tge ongoing costs of maintenance and upkeep of the grounds, as well as helping us to plan for the future in order to deliver a first class facility for our ever growing young membership. LOTTO: The latest Lotto draw took place on Thursday, April 18 with the jackpot standing at €9,300. The numbers drawn were 1, 3, 13 and 28. Winners of the €50 lucky dips were M. Mulcahy, @Leos; N. Carr, Bloomfield; J. Keane, Monaleen Park; C.O’hAodha, Glenside. Tickets can be purchased on a weekly basis from local shops and pubs and the draw is held every Thursday night in the club at 10pm.
CAMOGIE: The Final round of group games in the U16 League were played on Thursday. Monaleen were away to Granagh Ballingarry. The girls played well from the start and there was little doubt about the outcome. The final score was Monaleen 7-15 Granagh Ballingarry 4-4. The result means that Monaleen top their group and progress to the Cup semi-final which will be played on May 2nd. JUNIOR 12-A-SIDE: On Sunday afternoon our Junior 12 aside team played Murroe Boher away. This was a one-side affair and the Monaleen girls were too strong all over the field for their opponents. Some great scoring and a final score of Monaleen 6-28 to MB 0-3. This young team are progressing well and next week have a home game v Kilmallock to look forward to. U14 GIRLS: Our U14 girls played away to Kileedy on a beautiful Tuesday evening last week. A great team performance from Monaleen Camogie saw them win on a scoreline of 4-03 to 0-07, with goals from Amie O’Brien, Faye Coffey & Laura Southern (2). U14 girls play at home to Adare this Tuesday evening, throw in at 7pm.
U12 TEAM: Our U12 team played Granagh Ballingarry away last Thursday in a challenge coming away with a strong win. They now play away to Bruff this Thursday evening, all matches are great prep for upcoming U12 blitzes and league games.
U-11 GIRLS: U11 girls also played away to Ahane U12 girls last Thursday, this game was good competitive match with plenty of good points to take from for our U11 team.
LIMERICK MINORS: Well done to Caitlin Bonifil who is part of the Limerick Minor panel who won their All Ireland B Semi Final against Westmeath last Saturday. They now play the All-Ireland final v Laois, throw in at 1pm this Saturday in New
HOPE CHARITY: Well done to Mia O’Halloran who along with her Castletroy College students is currently in India with HOPE charity.
