LIMERICK HURLERS: Best of luck to the Monaleen contingent involved in the Limerick senior hurling squad which faces Carlow in the All-Ireland senior hurling championship preliminary round quarter-final at Dr Cullen Park, Carlow, this Saturday at 7pm. Andrew la Touche Cosgrave and Lorcan Lyons are both members of the Limerick senior hurling squad, while Brian Geary is a selector with the Limerick side and Paul Kinnerk is coach.

ALL-COUNTY HURLING LEAGUE: Our senior hurlers had a good 2-18 to 1-13 win over local rivals Mungret-St Paul’s in their top-of-the-table clash in Division 2 of the All-County Hurling League in Monaleen on Saturday last. Monaleen are due to face Murroe-Boher in the next round of the competition this Thursday, July 5 in Monaleen at 7.30pm.

MINOR FOOTBALL: Our minor footballers are due to face Fr Casey’s in the county premier minor football championship in Abbeyfeale this Friday evening at 7.30pm.

LOTTO: There was no winner of last week’s jackpot of €20,000. The draw took place on Thursday, June 28. The numbers drawn were 1, 16, 22 and 25. Winners of €50 lucky dips were K O’Donovan, Oakfield; J. McGinn, Beechwood; E. Lynch, Monaleen Rd; M. Cunningham, Hazelhall. Our jackpot remains at its maximum allowed limit of €20,000 and will remain at this level until some lucky winner carries off the Big prize. Tickets can be purchased on a weekly basis from local shops and pubs and the draw is held every Thursday night in the club at 10pm.

U-16 FOOTBALL: Our U-16 footballers defeated local rivals St Patrick’s 1-6 to 0-8 in Division 1 of the County U-16 championship in Rhebogue on Monday night last. It was the side’s third win of the campaign.

COMMUNITY GAMES HURLING: On Saturday last our Community Games U10.5 Hurling team representing Limerick played in the Munster quarter-final against Cork champions Ballincollig at UL’s North Campus. Our team produced a fantastic display to win on scoreline of 2-9 to 2-4. The performance was all the more impressive under the extreme playing conditions of over 30 degree temperatures. We had solid goalkeeping and distribution from Danny Nash. Strong resolute defending from Fionnan Hession, Conor Ryan, Ben O’ Connell, John John O’ Halloran and Jack Meegan. Tireless work-rate, score creation and finishing from our midfielders Conor Gavin and Alex Lautsou. Tremendous battling, score creation and score taking from our forwards Conor Bowles, Luke Stritch, Peter Scully, Brad Bennett, Paul Kinsella and Darragh Brown. We have now progressed to the Munster semi final against Tipperary champions Nenagh. This match takes place on this Saturday, July 7 on the UL main grass pitch at 11.00. All available support would be greatly appreciated.

The Monaleen U-10 football squad which took part in a blitz in Oranmore Maree last weekend

U-10 FOOTBALL: On Saturday last, Monaleen GAA were invited to take part in the Oranmore/Maree GAA club under 10 football blitz. On a very hot day Monaleen played Caherlistrane from Co Galway, followed by the hosts Oranmore/Maree and finally Clann na nGael from Co. Roscommon. It was a fantastic very well-run event which our boys thoroughly enjoyed. The skills on show from all of the clubs involved were exceptional for under ten. The team included Rory Heffernan, Matthew Fox, Oscar Fitzgerald, Louis Ferland, Nathan Fitzpatrick, Jack Kiely, Lee Hogan, Enda Collins, Jamie Crowley, Luke McDermott, Cillian Lacey and Brian Mullane.


CAMOGIE: Congrats to Monaleen’s Caitlin Bonfil who is a member of the Limerick minor camogie side which plays Clare in the Munster championship at Ballyagran on Wednesday night. Caitlin is also a member of the provisional Limerick premier junior camogie squad which will compete in the All-Ireland Premier Junior Championship. Limerick will face Offaly on July 14.

SENIOR CAMOGIE: Megan O’Mara and Caoimhe Lyons were members of the Limerick senior camogie side which lost out to Galway in the All-Ireland senior camogie championship in Bruff on Saturday last. The Limerick side face Waterford in their next outing in the competition on Saturday, July 14.
