Croom GAA Club Notes
Cul Camp:Last week we held a very successful Kellogg’s Cul Camp. This year we had 63 kids taking part and also ran a mini 3 day “Tiny Tots” camp for our younger kids. Our lead coach was Orla Donnelly who also led the Rising Stars programme during the Winter and and is our Club School Limk coach to our national school. Thank you to Breda O’Dwyer, Finola McAteer, and Alan Sheerin for all the organising. Thank you to Orla and all our coaches, and Theresa Reidy who ran the mini “Tiny Tots” camp. Our U6 and U8 training will resume this week on Wednesdays from 6.30-7.30pm.
Our Intermediate Footballers started their campaign last Thursday against Ballybrown in Adare. We started sluggishly and were under pressure from a Ballybrown team who had recently won the County Junior League. We tightened up and started working the ball forward retaining possession a bit better. We went in at the break 5 points to 1 ahead. Ballybrown upped the intensity in the second half and we made mistakes carrying the ball down the middle and unforced errors/turnovers cost us as Ballybrown inched their way back but we rallied and found ourselves 2 points clear in the final couple of minutes. We turned over Ballybrown in the full back line with a minute to go and were working the ball out but the ball was knocked loose in possession and Ballybrown kicked the ball into an empty net. We were unable to force an equaliser. We lost by a point on a scoreline of 1.06 : 0.08 in what was a very frustrating defeat and a game we should have won. We will regroup for our second match against South Liberties which takes place on the weekend 19-22nd of July.
U16 Hurling and Football:
Our U16’s returned to competetive action after the exam break last week. We lost out to Knockainey in Football on a scoreline of 5.09 : 4.07. We play Ahane in Hurling on Monday July 9th followed by Football at home v Sarfields on Monday July 16th (all games 7.15pm). See www.limerickgaa.iefor fixtures.
Our U14s took on Granagh/Ballingarry last Sunday night in Croom in round 2 of the championship but we were well beaten. Croom hurled well against a strong breeze in the first half and only trailed by 4 points at the break. Unfortunately, we never got going in the second half and GB put us to the sword. Their physical strength proving too much to overcome, but the lads never gave up. Well done to all our players for all their commitment.
