U13 Football:
Bruff played Oola last week in the second round of the U13 championship in Meanus. The first half was a nip and tuck event with plenty of chances for both sides. Ours came from Paul O’ Brien-May side footing a goal to the back of the net. At half time Bruff was 1 goal and Oola were also 1 goal! We were playing against the wind in second half. However, Bruff battled for every ball. This game was kept in the melting pot right to the very end. Ethan Cumes as fullback had another no nonsense display. There was some great acrobatic saves by Ben Gunning, defying gravity at times. Alas, with five minutes left Oola got their second goal to put the game out of reach. Michael O’ Riordan finished off a great move to get a consolation point. John O’ Riordan was full of praise for boys afterwards; saying he could not have asked for anymore commitment. A special thanks to Seamus Hayes, who at short notice had Meanus field lined, flags out and nets up for us. He is not called “The real Bull Hayes” for nothing. The final score was Bruff 1-1 Oola 2-3. The Bruff Team was B Gunning, B Noonan, E Cumes, J Hogan, O Meany, D O’ Brien, C Heinz, B Meany, A Finn, C O’ Loughlin, B Callinan, M O’ Riordan, P O’ Brien-May, S lynch, J Farrell, J O’ Néill, S Casey, J O’ Connor and S O’ Riordan.
