2018 Hurling All-Star Awards

Maith thú agus comhghairdeas le Dan Morrissey on being named on the PWC All-Stars team for 2018.

On what was a magnificent year for Dan, culminating in winning back the Liam MacCarthy Cup for Limerick in August, he deservedly was selected by his peers at the left-half back position on the 2018 team. Having played superbly throughout the year and quietened some of the game’s most potent attackers in the game, Dan formed part of a formidable partnership across the Limerick half-back line with Declan Hannon and Diarmuid Byrnes, dominating in the air and on the ground throughout. It is quite a remarkable statistic that, apart from Nickie Quaid in goals, Dan was only outfield player to play every minute on the field of play during Limericks 8 game run to winning the All-Ireland!

One of the major steps for Limerick this year was overcoming Kilkenny in the q-final. On what was one of Limerick’s greatest tests, Dan stood tall and was magnificent throughout, picking up the Man-of-the-Match award on a day which saw Limerick finally overcome the Cats and make and All-Ireland semi-final.

Ahane GAA takes great pride in seeing a second All-Star come into the club, following Ollie Moran who picked up an award in 2007.

Another All-Star nominee this year was Tom Morrissey, who can be deemed very unlucky not to have picked up an award himself. Tom was nominated in the half forward line and unfortunately lost out to some superb hurlers in Joe Canning, Peter Duggan and Séamus Harnedy. No one will forget Tom’s two vital scores against Kilkenny from opposite sides of Semple Stadium in the q-final, or the superb goal on the biggest stage of all against Galway When you consider Tom sits alongside Kilkenny’s TJ Reid and Kyle Hayes in missing out, it tell a lot about the caliber of competition he faced for the spot. No doubt his moment will come in time..
