Ballysteen GAA Club Notes.
Senior & Minor Football
This weekend will see one of the most Important weekends of the year for the club as our Senior and Minor teams get ready for 2 matches that will dictate the remainder of their season. On Friday evening, our Minor team will take on Newcastlewest in the West Minor A football final. Both sides have already met this year with Newcastlewest coming out on top after a closely fought match but our Minor team will be riding high in confidence after a thrilling semi final victory over a highly fancied Drom/Broadford side in Rathkeale last week winning on a score line of 8-10 to 4-9. This will also be the 4th consecutive year that a Ballysteen Minor team will contest a West Football Minor final, a great achievement and great credit must be given to the players and Selectors Mark Ranahan, Maurice Somers, Danny Neville, John Anglim and John Neville. Please check list of fixtures for confirmation of time and venue.
On Sunday at 2pm in Newcastlewest, our Senior team will take on Fr. Caseys in the final game of the Senior Football Championship Group stages in a winner takes all game. A win for our Senior side will see the side secure 3rd place in the Group and a place in the Quarter finals of the championship. The Senior side have been very unlucky lately with a string of injuries to several players but a young and spirited side produced a superb performance against St.Patricks a fortnight ago to earn a draw in round 4 of the Group games to keep the Senior championship hopes alive. The best of luck to both players and management.
The club would like to offer a huge Congratulations to club man Willie O’Meara who was a member of the Limerick Senior Hurling panel which recently claimed the Liam McCarthy Cup.
Our 4th annual Golf Classic recently took place at the superb Newcastlewest Golf club and was once again a great success. The club would like to thank everyone who took part and especially all Businesses who helped sponsor the event.
On Saturday October 6th, the club will be hosting a race night at the Top of the town bar, Askeaton. This promises to be a great night with lots of fun. If anyone is looking to take part in the night or sponsor/own a horse for €30.00, please contact any member of the club. All support would be appreciated.
The club would like to offer its deepest condolences to both the Sweeney and Hanley families on the recent passing of Mikey Sweeney and Bridgette Murphy (nee Hanley)
